For anyone interested here is a link to sign the petition to stop Trump's visit to the UK from being classed as an official state visit
https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/171928/
I'm not stupid enough to imagine it will do any good but with over 1.1 million signatures so far it may make the government realise how unpopular it is.
( plus it will pi*** Off Trump which has to be a good idea!)

Yes, what we need are more African despots or Islamic terrorist, secret financiers, to ride the "green mall".
Via Westminster today. Presidents Bush and Obama were in post two years before they were invited he n a state visit to Britain?
Democratically, if only (say) two million of the electorate vote for this petition, the remainder of the electorate who don't want the visit banned will be in the VAST majority! Although if the "democrats" in the US are anything to go by, those who cry loudest are paid the most attention to!

TM must trust Donald more then

R S Donovan. Yes, I fully agree 1.1 million (over 1.5 million now!) is a tiny % of the electorate. But it is HUGE for an online petition , they normally think it a success to get 50,000 !!
I ask you to read the full notes with the petition even if you don't want to sign. It is more about sparing The Queen from the embarrassment of having to welcome a misogynistic, racist into her home than actually banning Trump. It even says as much !

Here is the actual wording of the petition
Donald Trump should be allowed to enter the UK in his capacity as head of the US Government, but he should not be invited to make an official State Visit because it would cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen.

More details
Well working on the basis that some people have adopted when discussing the referendum result (that those who did not vote were happy to remain because it was the "status quo"), if 2m people sign the petition to downgrade the State Visit, then 64m (or thereabouts) must agree to it remaining as it is. :-)
Pathetic posturing IMHO. Now if Mr Kim was coming I might begin to see the point.
whether or not we like it he is the democratically elected president of USA and as such a state visit .the invitation is from the queen as head of state..is traditional..and no more or less than would be afforded to Mickey Mouse or Jack the Ripper if they held office
Keep it growing, the man is an insidious twerp and how many folk have lost jobs as a result of his heavy-handedness....6000 in Atlantic City apparently.

I hope that there is a crack-shot out there shortly - news of China upping their war plans as to the US and Gawd knows about that equally insane dipso-tyrant in Pyongyang.

He is certainly keeping the lawyers in business, 16 US States so far are taking legal action to stop his immigration ban as it is unconstitutional.
DT ..a wee parade in a coach or posh banquet in Buck House aint gonna change a thing....protocol simply protocol..but the people of USA voted for him at the end of the day and democracy is what it is all about..they only have themselves to answer to, no point in voting him in then bleating about it..them's the breaks..you get what you paid for !!

I agree with Minty. It is State visiting State - the personalities are irrelevant. The Queen received Idi Amin, if I remember rightly (and I'm sure I do). People may, and do, object, but ultimately it is in the interests of all residents in these isles to have him on our side - not saying this is straightforward or a 'yeaah, let's be friends' attitude. So, I'm afraid that I say - yes, protest noted and quite understood, but visit must go ahead pleasantly. Trump is thin-skinned. Boris has done well with getting exemptions from travel ban for UK citizens, UK citizens must be our priority i.m.o..
I have no recollection of Idi Amin paying a state visit, though I may be wrong. I do remember, however, that she had to put up with the odious Ceauçescus.
Yep db. Incredible isn't it.
Of course he should be received by the Royal Family - he and Phillip can then spend hours swapping racist jokes.
Hitler was as thick-skinned and survived on the extreme views of a minority to build an image of acceptance.

The sooner this man is clipped at the very least, the better. I hope the US courts managed to put some shackles on the loon....and loons can be intelligent by the way, even more dangerous perhaps.
Apolgies: have checked and Amin did not manage to visit, but there were massive preparations for a visit and his favourite wife died in London, so there were lots of links which I obviously misremembered.
Her Maj. has, however, received very many visitors, who she would probably have wished to keep at arms length, in the broader interests of the country and I suggest that the rest of us do the same.
I really don't care whether or not he meets the Queen.....but I'd welcome a visit here.
I will protest because I detest this man, what he stands for and the way he has behaved in his first week as President.

I can't just sit back with my head in the sand and accept this man as a world leader......I won't make a difference but I won't have done nothing.
