I know the Pope is a catholic, but I'm no longer certain if Johnson is a real Conservative, he seems to be what could be described as a Metropolitan- Liberal - Green, to me.

no party leader in modern times, has had to deal with so much, that he is still leader says something don't you think. If they want shot of him then more fool them.
Danny, as Khandro wrote:

A Metropolitan liberal green.

Quite simple. Just look at his policies for confirmation.
Emie, are you related to him too?

I guess you are another stuck in the London bubble. Get out a bit, real Conservatives are fed up with him, including his own MP's.
He's my long lost uncle, ymb …
of course not, i am not part and parcel of the Liberal elite, just a retiree trying to stay alive. I think Boris has been dealt a pretty poor hand
ymb//A Metropolitan liberal green.//
Why, because he believes in climate change?
"No party leader in modern....blah...blah....blah." You're going to wear those particular keys out, Emmie.
doesn't Keir believe in climate change, doesn't Ed Davey, i'm sure they do.
YMB, I don't know any Conservatives who are fed up with him... and what's all this about being stuck in a London bubble? I'm not in London but as far as I'm aware London's bubble is a red one.
Actually I'm beginning to think that Boris is a true statesman who realises that one party with a large majority is not good for the country, so he's working on reducing it. He noticed the effect that Teresa May had by upsetting the pensioners and now he's working on the northerners by scrapping the HS2 link to Leeds.
For me the definition of Conservative is low taxation, small 'g' Government (i.e, not too much state interference), and low regulation...which I suppose is similar to small 'g' Government.

So on balance, he doesn't appear to me now to be a true Tory - and I agree with ymb, in that I feel his wife is influencing him, particularly on expensive green initiatives that may not (I don't pretend to understand the science - hence my use of the word 'may') have any meaningful impact.

Where I'm torn on the tax issue is that the massive spending does have to be recouped somehow (although I think the 1.5% increase on NI next year is way way too much).
never mind when he is out of office, and Labour are in you will be happy i am sure.
The real problem is everyone wants everything to be what THEY want - and that can never be. Personally, I think he's done a good job in extreme circumstances - and I don't say that because I vote Conservative (see my deliberations on the appalling Mrs May for confirmation of that!) - I say it because I believe it to be true. I like Boris and I think he genuinely has this country's best interests at heart.
emmie - there are those amongst us who think that the Tories will have a better chance of staying in office if Boris is replaced.
i agree Naomi,
replace him with who by the way bhg...
BHG// a better chance of staying in office if Boris is replaced.//
Although I am a Conservative I have to agree with you.The party needs a new leader with less personal baggage.
I’d say Johnson is a Conservative.
Conservatives believe in conserving things. Such as the environment :-)
It baffles me that people think being green and being a Conservative are not compatible. And being “liberal” is not compatible either????
And I’m not a Conservative supporter.
The Tories tho somewhat ironically given the name perhaps always reinvent themselves: Johnson’s trick has been a particularly egregious example. Effectively pretending that the previous Tory governments of Cameron and May were not anything to do with him and completely different beasts.
Thatcher and her allies carried out a revolution in the Tory party and then proceeded to dismantle many of the things previous Tories held dear.
Was she not a Conservative?
The problem with Johnson is simply that he’s a rogue and should never have been let anywhere near Number 10.
Tory rogue, Labour rogue, Brexiteer rogue, Remainer rogue (he toyed with both sides of that argument) it matters not
almost anybody, emmie. The Downing Street cat would do a better job.
bhg, ridiculous statement.
The Downing Street cat has the advantage that it doesn't tell lies.
