I just can't see how the government can somehow 'give up', though that may be a good idea. Turkeys don't vote for Christmas. You can bet they're checking and re-checking their £250,000 a year allowances and canvassing contacts for well-paid jobs in the certain knowledge that at least half of them will have to look for new jobs.
