Airport Security Pains To Continue Beyond Next Week When Boris Promised They Would End.

Worldwide in normal times, half a million people pass through airport security every hour. Many airline passengers say it is the worst part of the journey – in particular, the need to limit LAGs (liquids, aerosols and gels) to small containers and extract them from cabin baggage.

These rules were introduced hastily in 2006 as a temporary measure. Despite repeated promises to the contrary, they remain in place.

In 2019 Boris Johnson promised the rules would be eased at major UK airports by 1 December 2022, allowing larger quantities and eliminating the need to have liquids separately scanned.

Less than a week to go, and it won’t happen.

I don't mind the shampoo (I just buy some while abroad). It's the faffing around taking off shoes and belts and watches that gets up my nose. You just know they won't be happy till they can strip everyone naked.

The deadline for easing restrictions has been delayed as a result of the pandemic, not Boris’ fault.
Trying to stop another Lockerbie type incident is justified. No one wants to be blown to smithereens in the sky, and introducing new detection machines at airports is expensive. The airports have just been given more time to introduce new equipment. No conspiracy, no broken promise, just a pragmatic way of dealing with the effects of a worldwide pandemic.

davebro - I had that happen in Richmond, Va in the states - a small promo Camping Gaz swiss knife on my key-ring - had forgotten about it and they picked up on it about 6 months after 9-11. I did accuse them of grand larceny...but, more seriously, why can't they offer a service to bag it and send it on for you - say for a fiver...

How hard is it to wear slip on shoes and not bother with a belt?

I think it's a small price to pay and usually it takes no more than a few minutes. I do find the taking off of my belt hard though. Any large quantities of liquids are placed in hold luggage so no problem there. Most of the ones who have the problems are the ones who don't read what you can and can't take in the first place then complain when they have to throw it away at security.

I remember back in the late seventies when I came back from Zurich and got stopped as I had the weights from a cuckoo clock in my briefcase and they thought I had grenades in it. No problem and it was good to know that they spotted these things even back then.

I think the answer to your question is that the words 'Promised' & 'Boris' should never be in the same sentence. The man is an habitual liar and cheat. He reportedly cheated on his wife whilst she was dealing with cancer, think about that one for a moment. He was Fired from two decent, well-paid jobs for... you guessed it, Lying.
