Do We Ever Really Care Who Lived In Our...

Of course it doesn't, it's just a cynical ploy by Sunak to cash in on public outrage as a vote-catcher. Gully knows, he needs something.

it can't be a cyincal ploy - they are saying nothing will paid out ( against ) except on application ( only 500p) before Xmas 24
now - at risk of the usual mods yapping, to run over the options
declare they are all innocent - usurps the function of the courts. Judges NOT keen - the wheels of justice grind slow and even slower on appeal. Public not at all keen on slowness
give them pardons - as the papers say - the convictions remain. or as I say, they have to admit they have done it. and like the IRA non-bombers they ( some) wont
acce;erate the hearing / re examination of each case. Cd be done with a separate tribunal. Likely still to be very slow. Judges can say ( Ld Peter Taylor IRA) "it is nothing to do with us if (X) chooses to lie to us" - v pop with er the judges and not so pop with punters and public.
this has been on AB in the last week
and is now in todays Times - do they read AB I ask myself
I have noticed that there is a very strong er bias of
"some of them clearly DID do something" - - and so it is far far better to prevent innocent people being declared innocent and getting moolah than to allow one or two scum to clean up" - even if those dont exist....
an so we can estimate boys and girls
7 cases before hand a year before Horison, 10y years H - so that is 70 - out of a few thousand
peanuts innit? Great British Justice must not be unsullied by pardoning the wrong fella ( irony intended)
"Why Does It Need A New Law To Overturn Wrongful Convictions"
"Of course it doesn't,..."
No it doesn't - if you're prepared to deal with each of them individually via the Court of Appeal. There were 983 sub-postmasters convicted of either theft or false accounting. So far just 95 have had their convictions overturned.
So how do you propose, without fresh legislation, the remaining 888 cases are dealt with before most of the victims of this gigantic injustice die?
20:21 They can sort them all out now then set up a proper investigation to look for real tea leaves if there are any then nick them at their leasure later.
What worries me now though is that from now on every postmaster even slightly iffy will now be having it away big time and will get away with it because they know they can blame the software etc.
Some miscarriages are corrected very quickly - I thought Steven Kiszko was that week end ( lesley moleseed, stain had wiggle things, Steven had none) but it was around 6 weeks
but this is 20y - and multiple people whose business it was, said it wasnt any of their business
and I agree with Canary ( you are getting alot of unnecessary and undeserved abuse little birdie)
appeals should be quicker
54 appeals have been turned down and there isnt even the idea of "Oh the subs did it", but much more " the appeal court doesnt get it".
What worries me is that from now on every postmaster even slightly iffy will now be having it away big time and will get away with it because they know they can blame the software.
so 770 can stew when we know they are NOT in that set. righto!
ho hum must be AB on a wednesday.
In fact there is already case law on this - following the spectacular west mids corruption cases
a lawyer tried " o god m'lud he is a damned liar" and the judge ruled that the detective had to be involved, in the case and his evidence 'touch' the matter in question. ( and I think was wrong) - ie no tainting by association
CBL - it looks as tho they will give a blanket re-acquittal and then if the party wants money, he can apply and THEN it will be further scutinised.
It all means more money for the lawyers
Our masters - Great and Good all of them - are aware that the dearth of applications for "money now please" is because the wronged parties have had enbought of British Justice....( and of course the Great and Good wonder how that will play in a general election)
