Whenever you read the papers, the Romanians are always scroungers and thieves, while the Poles are Honest and hard working.

Thats the impression I get, in your view, would that be correct?.

No, they are both scroungers and theives, It`s just that some of the Poles work that the government and the dogooders use this as a smokescreen to make us think they are all honest hard working
Well, I don't know all Romanians, or all Poles, but from reading the press and from listening to other people, I do get that impression, Lonnie. I don't know how true it is though.
Crum, no matter which way anyone would present this, it would be quite offensive! However, I do get the impression that the media is attempting to manipulate our mindset. It seems to be manicured over the fact that although Romania is part of the EU, Romanians still do not have the right to directly enter the UK, as do the Polish.
Ive worked in Romania for many years. Personally, I have been against Romanias acceptance into the EU not for any political reasons whatsoever. It is merely for the fact that I do not feel the country has yet done what is necessary to have social parity across the country.

Romanias dictatorship was run as a central government, which meant the farther away from Bucharest you got, the less services existedand today, its no different. I work in Bihor County Transilvania. The poverty, homelessness, child-suffering appears almost insurmountable. Even my own staff will comment, in honesty, that they would live better, sneaking into the UK, living in a single room with 8 other people, and working in a job that no Brit would ever consider accepting and automatically better their living conditions by doing so, plus being able to support their family at home.

My friends in Krakw and Warsaw face different challenges, but mostly its still the disparity in earnings between Poland and the UK. I will state, unequivocally, the work ethic among the Polish Community and the Romanian Community, compared to our own puts us to shame! Ask any human resource office about the mindset between our culture and an Eastern European culture when it comes to work ethic and base skills and they will always choose Eastern Europeans over Britains. Its a truthful but damning wake-up call as our countries rapidly homogenise in to borderless states.

I work with a Polish bird and hump her. There is a gorgious Polish bird works in a pub i go to...and Id hump her...so Poles win here I think
ELVIS68 U R Spot On, I Live Not Far From The City Of LINCOLN. Why not try treating the individual as a person rather than pre-judging with some ridulous stereotype - it may suprise you to know but not all Poles are the same nor are Romanians, English, Welsh etc etc. The world would maybe be simpler if that were the case but it isn't

Oh for goodness sake... The media can make you think anything if you let it.

I always found taking people as you find them a good starting point. A tw@t is a tw@t regardless of colour, race, sexuality, religion etc.... It's a personality thing.

As I said, that is the impression I get from the Media, I've always judged as I find, and you can't judge a whole race on one experience.

It could be a bias on the media's part, but since the Romanians and Poles have been coming to this country, I can recall countless times Romanians have been in the papers, either for scrounging off the state, or thievery, mainly pickpocketing and shoplifting, but only one concering a Pole, that was a serial rapist, and I was wondering, generally, the Poles have been reported as working hard to send money home to relatives.

Obviously, it can't be all of either nationality, but the impression the media gives, makes it seem as if it is, and wonderd about the possibilities of a witch hunt starting up at some point in the near future.

As a matter of personanel interest, my Paternal Grandfather came from Romania, enlisted, and fought the first war for this country.
He came here to escape the persecutions going on at that time.
I know that has nothing to do with the question, but just thought i'd add it as a rider.

Fr Bill, your reply is almost exactly how I understand it to be.

Thanks to everyone for responding,

Not being difficult, Lonnie, but personally I've never ever seen that distinction in the media.

This is the first I've heard of it.
