Sounds more like an argument in a bar, where one member was part of a criminal gang. If you have a large, well-organized group of terrorists, that 'disband', there is going to be a criminal organization left over. If they don't get things their own way, they resort to thuggery.
I really feel for their loss, but the political point scoring (cf GW Bush) seems just daft to me. What has this incident got to do with NI Peace processes? If there was a full on peace situation, you'd still have these thugs acting like this.
Now if you lose a family member to a bomb in a busy main street, yes, then you go to George Bush. Not that I think that thug should have much to do with peace processes anyway.
I can kind of see what joeyshabado is trying to say, in that it was not a terrorist attack that killed Robert McCartney, but a fight in a bar and the killers happened to be part of the IRA.
To my knowledge the McCartney sisters are not out to change the world, they are out for justice for their brother. They have been threatened but they say they have no fear. It's the strength of these women to stand firm in the face of the IRA which is truely inspirational.
I don't doubt G-Dubblya is playing a points scoring game. But I don't think that's the point in this instance. It's standing up to the bully's. I would feel the same if someone was standing up to the gun gangs which seem to be taking over our cities, or the mafia. It's someone saying "this isn't good enough" and we're not going to lie down and let you walk all over us anymore.
A father is drinking in a bar and gets involved in a argument with some guys, who then set upon the poor guy and butcher him in front of many witnesses, the murduring scum are members of the ira among the witnesses are sinn fein members including a local candidate about to stand in the upcoming elections, yet not one has come forward to name the scum, instead they exercise their right to silence, to top it off the IRA offer to kill the murderers.. and yet some people say what has it got to do with gerry adams and the peace process, the mind boggles...
now lets see oh yes gerry adams is the leader of sinn fein, part of the power sharing executive, i would have thought it had a lot to do with him and sinn fein, when members of an organisation alligned to him commits a murder and sinn fein candidates and members witness it and do nothing to bring the scum to justice.
As for the mccartney sisters, what wonderful and heroic people these are, they should be applauded by every right minded citizen for their stand aginst gangsterism, i hope they get justice for their dead brother.
Ps i know mcguiness or adams were not responsible for the murder, and are in a very difficult political position, but if they or the ira, do not deal with these thugs similar acts of murder will occur again and again.
And the peace process will be gone for good.

-Political point scoring: as I mentioned, on the part of GW Bush. He knows what he is doing has nothing to do with the peace process, what the hell is he doing stepping in to such a narrow incident? Bush is making a
-At the moment, to all intents and purposes, the terrorist activities of the IRA have ceased (you may have noticed a big drop in the number of bombings reported in the 'Sun'). This helps to explain why they wish to fill the void by (allegedly) carrying out huge bank heists.
I feel great for these women, but the whole thing is a bit of a meaningless jumble. The business is being treated as related to the peace process, and it's not, it's pretty much coincidental that the killer involved happened to be IRA. So why was Bush then involved? The IRA offered to intervene...good on the women for not taking up the offer, but this would show that the killing is LESS of a political issue rather than more so.
So the basic story is that a guy gets stabbed in a bar after a brawl, and because someone was maybe related to the IRA, the woment should punt themselves to the States, blind to idiot Bush's idiotic point scoring. They shouldn't have gone. It's a sham.
