I didn't realise that there are problems with some over the Scottish Census Form?

Perhaps the powers that be could also demand that all Call Centres should speak the Queen's English?

So jackthehat says "there are no problems"

Pity the Scots didn't consult her first, it would have saved them going to the trouble of raising the web-site, to ask people if they can understand Scots.

Such questions are not asked on the English form, so it would appear that they do have a 'problem', that we don't.

/// As part of this year's census people in Scotland will be asked to say if they can understand, speak, read and / or write Scots.///

Do you not think things out first before posting your needless aggressive posts.
aog the English questionnaire does ask how well you can speak English.
What, the form asks us how well AOG can speak English? LOL!
His one does, yes.
LOL!
I thought these questions on the Scottish census were ridiculous. How do they define Scots? Glaswegian, Dundonian or Aberdonian? and who would write in Scots?

Was there a question on the English Census on the lines of 'Do you consider yourself English or British?'
It's a neat website, AOG - having spent years getting used to the Scots, I'm not too bad, but the NE does have me beaten at times - Fraserburgh in particular!
I think, AOG, that the confusion arises from us growing up being told to 'speak properly'. Scots is often treated as slang or lazy speech and not recognised as a language in its own right. As a result, many people think that 'Scots' refers to Scots Gaelic which is another language completely. All the website does is clarify what Scots technically is.
JMR, i'm with you on that one. How do they differentiate between proper Scots and regional slang? I answered no as I think that the old traditional Scot language is actually spoken very little and all we have now is a wierd mix of slang and english.
