Why are the staff of these places upset about not having the day off for the RW?It just does not seem feasible to me to allow staff the day off, it is a business they are running after all

I suppose because it's being unfairly different across the working public bobbi. I'm a civil servant and I'm getting an extra bank holiday for it.

I worked in retail and I am sure I would be aggrieved too Prudie but looking at the big picture, it would be madness for stores to close in this economic climate

it dosent really matter what sectort hey are in - people feel that other people are getting something they are not, therefore feel like they want to whinge

you very rare even get double time now in retail for a PH
it will be the same for front line services, they too will miss out
I know on BT we used to get Maundy Thursday off, those days have long gone now

Yes we'd all moan if stores were closed. It would have been fairer not to make it a holiday at all and those really interested could try to book leave.
I might pop a look at the dress but my interest stops there.

But not a statutory one - most large stores are open bank holidays these days - for business's like the DIY sheds, they are some of their best tradings days.

Molly, just because it has holiday after it's name doesn't make it less or more of a right to have the day off paid than any other public holiday (of which we, in England have 8). You either get lucky or not

Do hospitals close, do nurses & doctors have the day off, do police & fire services stop working because of a royal wedding, I think some of you should get a grip on the situation after all in these times aren't you lucky to have a job ( and it's not as though you've actually been invited to the actual ceremony) Ron.
