30 years since the Brixton riots are being commemorated.

Why is it that the Police seem to be the cause of these riots?

299 police officers and 65 civilians were injured, petrol bombs thrown for the first time on English streets, numerous vehicles destroyed, and properties also damaged.

All this started because police took action against the increase of crime in the area, which after all is what they are employed to do.

In the course of their duty, they went to the aid of a black lad who had been stabbed by criminals, a few youths tried to intervene and take him away in a car, but after the police managed to get him to hospital the rumour went around that the police had left him to die.

Why is now that the police are among the reasons given by the black community for the riots?

Why is it the police have to admit 'lessons must be learned'?

It would seem that it was because the Black community did not want law enforcement, that they decided to use such vicious action.

So surely it is them who should learn the lessons?

Police officers who were themselves involved were speaking on the radio last week explaining how their own policing strategy and the racism of a significant minority of their fellow officers caused the situation which was, in their opinion, then exacerbated by their own inept handling in the early stages.

Whatever, it did not justify the level of violence committed by the rioters - although as Lambeth are now referring to the riots as an 'uprising', I guess the rioters should now be referred to as uprisers.

There was an Inquiry by a High Court Judge which was highly critical of the Police. As a result, Policing was changed for the better.

The local populatIon wanted criminals caught, not harassing because they were black. Imagine if you were stopped and searched just because you are old? You wouldn't riot, but I am sure you'd write a post about it.

That is truly pathetic and is typical of some who wish to quell honest debate.

That is the attitude that has brought our country the problems that exist between the various races.

If one is dissuaded from discussing matters of concern, then one is no better than a person under the Nazi rule, these matter should be discussed with certain factions not excluded from criticism or responsibility.

Some of the retired officers interviewed last week (whilst not condoning the violence) acknowledged they had brought it upon themselves.

That was then and this is now.

30 years ago racism was still rife, there are no two ways about it. In addition th Met had many problems, not just with policing 'the blacks/colourds' whatever the term they used. They were virtually corrupt and oftern went to great lengths to get a convition, unfortunalty not always ethhical lengths.

I very much doubt the majority black community did not want law and order.

It is not feasable to write every post as if the reader is new to the site. A new reader who is offended could post a reply and regular posters will explain the remark, as we have done here. I thought LordSnooty had been on this site long enough to know this was mock racism.
