Council Tax

Grrrrr - my council have sent me their annual bill to extort money from me, which they refer to as 'council tax', and have been discussing the extortion at work.

 

The general consesus of opinion here is that the Poll Tax was by far a much better and fairer system.

You're luckier that you realise OBonio, our black plastic bags cost us nigh on �2,000 per year.  But....... isn't Ducati lucky?  Not only does he not have to buy black plastic bags, but he is also issued with a brown bin for gardening rubbish as well as his green bin for household rubbish.  In our locality, we have to buy special green plastic bags at our local library if we want our gardening rubbish removed, and obviously they don't hold much. I don't know how much they are, but they're expensive. You don't get many for �2.00. I am lucky though insofar that I do not live too far from our local tip.

We don't get any free bags and our council tax is over �100 per month. Although we'd be better off on the Lib Dem system (although you have to remember they want to RAISE income tax and I'm not sure by how much) I don't agree with means testing it. The reason being that there's little enough incentive for people to earn their own money now without taking more from the people who've worked harder. Council tax re-banding is very unfair as well because it's not like we don't need to live in the houses whether they've increased in value or not.
