There is no room in Sport for such vile behaviour, just what makes such deep set hatred against another's religion?
I refer to the Celtic manager having nail bombs sent to him through the post and then last night , a Hearts supporter lunging at him, this nutter could have had a kinfe in his hand!

I think it's much more personal than purely the Protestant/Catholic thing. Martin O'Neill managed Celtic for years and didn't suffer this kind of treatment. Mr Lennon has p!ssed some body/people off on a more personal level IMO

I was brought up a few miles outside Glasgow in a family that had no interest in football or religion therefore this whole vile aspect of local culture passed me by, I was just not brought up to think like that or judge people on what religion they are. It shames me that this is the image of Glasgow put out to the rest of the world.

My children will be raised the same way but a lot of people are still teaching their children to hate.

Please remember there are also a lot of people in Glasgow who are interested in football for the sake of the sport, not the violence and hatred. As usual it is the empty vessels that are making the most noise, this guy being a classic example --

Eh ?
1. Is he a football fan or just some bloke who was stopped in the street..........and if you can answer that, how do you know ?
2. All he did was confirm that he is a Roman Catholic who doesn't seem to observe the religious rituals.

Mrs jth is a Celtic supporter.....as is her older brother.....as was their father.

They are/were all Protestants !

haha trigs, just re-read it. LOL!
"Unseen Academicals" by Terry Pratchett.
Interesting book about football and prejudice
agreed woof :-)
Jeez louise, I forgot that no humour of any kind was allowed in news. I was not attacking Catholics, Celtic fans or your wife - who must be an incredibly strong patient woman.
.I just thought it mildly amusing that someone who was supposed to be religious thought that going to chapel would make them a Roman; suggesting perhaps that some people involved in Sectarianism maybe don't have the fullest idea of what they're fighting for. I merely used this clip for illustration..

My only evidence of him being a football fan is the title of his clip and if I have in anyway besmirched the character of this no doubt upstanding young man he can feel free to get a super injuction out against me.
Ah, that's your mistake, you see.....

Putting up a clip which illustrates a humorous point you have in your head, instead of having any bearing on the topic under discussion.

Is the chap in your clip well-known for his sectarian views, if not what was the point in using it ?

And less of the personal comment........we are in News, after all. Thankyou.
Can I also clear up the fact that sectarianism in Scotland is mainly focused on the west coast. There is very little or no sectarianism on the east coast, so best not to tar all of scotland with the same brush.

this happened in Edinburgh mosesg
but I know what you mean, I visited a friends Mums house over to the west of Glasgow and was told "if they ask what school you attned, put a Saint on front...lol
too daft for words imo
Bobbisox I am from further North, and grew up not encountering anything of the likes of the events that have happened in the central belt. I was in my mid 20's before I encountered anything like this and that was only when I was visiting friends in the central belt. Most of Scotland's football troubles over the years has been between Celtic & Rangers (the old firm) both Glasgow based football teams, and very little trouble outside these 2 teams.
"why this vicious sectarianism in Scottish football?"
Because there are plenty of idiots everywhere. Witness the hatred in some quarters of the English due to some events 300 years ago.
Once a f...wit, always a f...wit.
As a Leicester City supporter, I'm not the only one in town who holds Mr Lennon in very high regard. He always had a reputation locally as being a thoroughly nice character, if a bit of a slob at times. He was always one of those players willing to stop and sign autographs and to go out and about and meet the fans, visit them in hospital an the like. To see him being picked on and targeted like this just because of the religion he happened to be born into is just appalling and senseless.

There's a stereotype of the Irish as being a bit thick. Quite honestly, the thick ones here are the saddos who think that such behaviour is going to get someone to listen to their views.
Some of the most bigoted sectarians I have encountered have never even seen the inside of a church or chapel.
Good point Mike.
