Is the UK border agency fit for purpose?

Keith Vaz Chairman of the Commons Home Affairs Select Committee doesn't seem to think it is, but that is rich coming from a Labour MP whose Government let them all in, in the first place.

We did not hear any criticism from Mr Vaz then.

They havent wanted to tackle the problem, for years, quite the opposite they have actively encouraged and or turned a blind eye to immigration because for some strange reason they hate the fact that this country is predominantly white.

lets see how long beforefor all the hand wringing leftie liberal do-gooders come along screaming racist
I'm feel sure they won't if you provide evidence of your claim.
<<They havent wanted to tackle the problem, for years>>
<< they hate the fact that this country is predominantly white.>>

Who <<they>> precisely baz?
All the government ministers of the past 20 years? Predominantly white, male, middle and upper class.
Where is your evidence that immigration was significantly due to <<they>> hating that the country matched their own ethnicity?

Your post isn't so much <racist> as unsubstantiated and difficult to take seriously.

Have you noticed that Mr Vaz is black, if he is upset over the vast number of people we let in, then surely it can't be racist, to hold these thoughts?
Question Author
Sorry fender, you must have posted while I was preparing mine.

is this an identity crisis we see before us?
What does Keith Vaz's colour have to do with his opinions on immigration?
AOG - are you purporting that if a black man says something racist about black people, it is in effect 'cancelled out' because of the speaker's ethnicity?

That is a complete nonsense, and i am sure you are merely being provocative.

I am white - Nazis were / are white, therefore it's perfectly Ok to exterminate a generation of Jews because we're all whites together?

It just doesn't fly does it?

In answer to your question - if you read the text, it states that there is 'what amounts to an amnesty' - which answers your question - No.

The fact is, this important government department is staffed by civil servents who have no vested interest in the results of what they do, or in this case, don't do.

Gorverment departments are not businesses, there is co element of competition, there is no-one to answer to if they spend years simply not doing their jobs.

It is the structure of government that needs to be addressed - a level of accountability put in place, and some proper checks and safeguards.

But none of that is going to happen - because no-one needs to do anything - they get paid anyway, so why rock the boat?

Institutionalised beaureaucracy has a lot to answer for.
fender

where is your post that you and old git were both referring to?

I think this is the type of post you are referring to, it is totally unnecessary and contributes nothing to the debate.

Once again you are taking my words out of context and adding your own assumptions to them.

But as I have said before I am no longer going to be drawn into your games, by trying to explain the real interpretations to my words, to such as you.
I don't understand your last post AOG - would you care to elaborate please?
Could you define the phrase 'such as you'?
the post from fender is exactly below this one
And perhaps Old Git can answer another perfectly reasonable question:

where is the post that you and 'fender' were referring to earlier?

Or perhaps Ed can explain this aberration?
hello? hello? it's below this one
Bedknobs - thank you.

The term 'post' is being used to mean 'Question'

I took 'post' to mean an entry/response/contribution to this question- not a totally different question.

How in the accepted terminology does one distinguish between responses and Questions?
well, now you are just talking semantics. post and question are synonymous, as are post and response
semantics just means 'the meaning of words'

so yes i am. I would have thought that was self evident.

It was a genuine question - no need to get upset.

When Old Git referred to fender's post, i was expecting to see above Old Git's onputs to this thread, a similar input from fender or at least signs of an 'answer removed'.

If <post> as in input to a question thread and <question> are, as you claim, synonymous - then confusion would seem to be inevitable.
