Or do you think it's acceptable for the police to act like this?

Violence of any sort should be repelled, I hope this man lodges a strong complaint and an inquiry to the Police Commission and takes it further
The mat ahve already paid him compensation...
*have
it would appear not, as they have been found not guilty.... i did see the pictures on the news of the mans injuries ! why would they pay him any money if they are not guilty ?

There might be a reluctance by the jury to convict policemen when they were charged with assaulting a 'terrorist suspect'?
the original payout was on the basis that:

"The police admitted that officers subjected Ahmad to a sustained and brutal beating."

In this instance, it appears that the mans claims could not be backed up from the recordings from a bug placed in his home. this might have had more to do with it the jury not believing his story.
anne - i was referring to the article here;

The acquittals follow a civil case in 2009 in which the Met conceded Ahmad had been the subject of a "a serious, gratuitous and prolonged" attack – and paid him £60,000 in damages.

Well at least they didn't shoot him. As police did a few years back when they raided a house searching for terrorist suspects in East London a few years ago.
I hope they booked this with the Imam and took off their shoes, who do they think they are, policemen or something? Don't they know they have to make an appointment?! F_FS?
The civil case said the Met was culpable and damages were awarded.
The criminal case has found the individual officers not guilty.
Again there is a difference in percerption.

This guy, who is still in custody after 8 years, was in a house raided by police, now I don't know about you but I would be in fear of my life when I entered the house. The adrenilin would be pumping and then the suspect acted in an excitable and agressive manner.

So they tackled him, he resisted arrest, they have used forced. It is very easy, in the cold light of day, to be critical of them and indeed they are still to under go internal disciplinary procedures. We will never know the actual truth but if I was on the jury I wouldn't have found them guilty.
There are too many armchair critics on this site. Some want to try getting out a bit and understanding the often diffuclt role the old bill do. I'm not a particular fan of plod at all but if you think about it you shoudl be able to see what they are up against.
A photograph taken totally out of context, no matter how convincing it appears, can often lead to the completely wrong conclusion. It is of course obvious that there are visible injuries, as in this case, but the photo most certainly cannot verify how the person came by their injuries.

The Police "react" to situations as opposed to "instigating" them, and often have to resort to strongarm tactics in order to achieve their goal. The vast majority of Joe Public have no concept of how difficult it is to restrain a suspect and eventually arrest him if he does not comply.

Not everyone "comes quietly", and it is not uncommon for a suspect to incur some sort of injury if he puts up some kind of resistance or acts violently towards the Police. Once an Officer informs a suspect that he is under arrest, he cannot just turn away if the person begins lashing out. There is no easy or magical way to restrain someone acting like that without to some extent having to use brute force and physical force, because it is often impractical and inappropriate for example to use CS gas or indeed a taser if he arrest is taking place, say, in a house.

If anyone doubts my comments, either join the Police and find out for yourself, or watch closely most nights of the week in a town centre near you! You'll soon get the idea.
