Why is the Government so keen on digital?
Why are the Government so keen to get rid of analogue broadcasts and make us all use digital TV's etc? What difference does it make to them?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.It's because analogue broadcasting is fantastically wasteful, using loads of power to (almost) indescrimately (sp?) beam the signals any/everywhere. It also needs loads of bandwidth for a few channels. Digital is effictively the opposite, giving more choice and irradiating less people living near the broadcast site (if you're the type of person who's worried by this).
There's also the cash to be earned by selling off the old frequencies, that's true. However, I'm pretty sure it'd happen regardless of which party was in power because it's progress in the right direction and makes good sense.
