Not one to unfairly criticise the Daily Mail, but this time I think they have gone too far.
Yes this time they are using words such as 'Britain's thought police' because a black person (and a female at that) happens to have been found guilty of racially aggravated harassment, against another female who happens to be Asian.
/// Shirley Brown is surprised that she has been so harshly treated over the fact that she called the Asian councillorJay Jethwa a 'Coconut'.///
/// I’m devastated that after all my hard work for the community I’ve got a criminal record for racism.///
I wonder if she would have had the same feelings, if the 'racist insult' had been directed at her (especially if they had been from a white person)? I would have thought not only would she be calling for the insulting person to be punished to the full letter of the law, but she would also be demanding a large sun of money in compensation.
/// The word coconut is used as slang to describe someone who is believed to be betraying their ethnic roots by pandering to white opinion – referring to a coconut being brown on the outside but white on the inside. ///
I wonder what the term is used for a white person who panders to black opinion?
