I would point out the reverse is also not desirable. For centuries the church has tried to run the state and even today our non-faith schools are by law supposed to start the school day with an act of religious worship plus the curriculum must include religious education.

Whilst evolution is only taught as a part of biology ( not compulsory ) and no comparision is made with Genesis, and then only then in secondary education by which times our children have been programmed into a basic belief of the bible version. I faith schools of course the religious element is far greater.
In all cases faith is preventing full intergration.

Pixi, fine for you, but i don't care for the fact i cannot find a butchers now as the only ones in our area sell only halal meat, the exception being the big supermarket, and i wouldn't be too sure of that.

many supermarkets are notorious for not telling their customers what goes in what, they are out to make a profit. how many parents knew that halal meat was being served up to the children in schools, and we aren't talking Muslim faith schools.
And you said it yourself, you would rather live in an area where there are only muslims, cleaner, quieter, etc, you can't live in the capital, because if you do, ive no idea where that could be. Its a melting pot that's for sure.

I have been ripped off many times by Muslims and many times by Christians
As for integration try telling that to the people of manningham or the people of eccleshill

pixi i am the opposite years back we used to do lots of work for people of all nationalities. Like everyone else if they could get the same job cheaper they would pay cash in hand.
most of the jobs i did was for polish or jewish people and we never had any problems.
then we started doing more work for the asians as they started opening up new businesses.
second job we did on the side for them we got ripped off so i have never worked for them again other than an asian friend and the three jobs i did for him i did not charge

so you see it works both ways you have been lucky

I have to agree with em10 - it's a cultural thing that people can't integrate, cultures do not mix by their very basic "rules". Yes you can tolerate to an extent but the culture one comes from is how you've been brought up and tolerance isn't always enough when having to live side by side.

What I do object to in this country is how there are certain rules for one culture but not for another and one of those rules is very apparent; I was in my local hospital last week for a blood test and a Sikh gentleman came in enquiring about a blood test and beneath his jacket one could see the kirpan he was wearing (ceremonial dagger) which apparently is allowed to be worn in public. Now whilst I respect everyone's religion and ways of....why should this particular object be allowed when ALL knives are banned in public? I have issues with this and other religous or safety items where some are allowed to wear/use and some are not. Surely there should be one rule for all.

As for integration, it's a long way off and I personally don't think it can ever happen in any country when there are cultural differences.

I don't get it , why was he ignored and by whom ? Is he a Muslim and why would it make any difference when he is with you ?

Re- being ripped off I find Muslims always try to do a deal . It's never a straight forward transaction they quote the highest price and will rip you off if you let them.

halal by definition, is not the way i believe animals should be slaughtered, so by serving up halal food in local shops, means you are only catering for one section of that society. And we had it foisted on us whether we like it or not. I do not buy from these places, so go elsewhere to get my produce.

pixi One thing I have noticed when I socialise with Muslims they are quite happy me being an atheist far more than if I was a RC. Is that the case or is it just where I live ?

pixi, its takes all sorts, and i have worked and socialised with people from every background, country, and virtually every religion, and any number of died in the wool atheists, but i can say this, that even looking at in the cold light of a very grey day, Islam doesn't give a good account of itself, nor does Christianity, but when you see constant news reports of Muslim killing Muslim, Muslims hating the Jews, and the endless suicide bombings, 9/11, and the London bombings, you have to ask yourself, what does this mean for Britain now and in the future.
