Somebody must have complained about his behaviour I would have thought. If he`s got any sense he could say (during any investigation) that he was having a breakdown. It would be a shame to sack him. He acted like a prat but that`s not the end of the world. In some companies you`re "asked to resign". It`s a nicer way of getting rid without impacting on someone`s CV and loss of pension.
It was not a sackable offence, has he had legitimate concerns about patients under his care. If he were to be sacked then he would have a fair claim for unfair dismissal.
That is not to say his actions did not embarrass the Hospital Trusts' administrators. They would have been very annoyed.
He hasn't resigned, or the Trust would have gladly announced it. Nor was it a breakdown.
I suspect they have told him to lay low, on full pay no doubt, until it all blows over, and he can quietly return.

Photoshoots in a hospital are more vote catching than any electoral address. The politicians are completely at fault for wandering round a sterilised environment. Maybe the surgeon was acting the thoughts of what many people thought and should be recommended for having the truth to speak out. Unfortunately we know its not the medical stafff than run hospitals but the penpushers who like to throw their weight around.

The visitors who were in close contact with patients were complying with instructions to roll up sleeves.
The others had asked and been told they didn't need to.
The visitors (like them or not) are representatives of the people who pay for the hospital ie Us.
The surgeon seemed more upset that others were getting away with a rule that he had to comply with. Do bow ties and pomposity naturally go together?

Just for the record and in my opinion doctors are cr@p administrators, believe me.
There is an incentive for doctors to enter into hospital medical politics and administration.....,merit awards which can add another £50,000 and more to your annual income. This involves spending more time in meetings and lees time with patients.
For God's sake, don't let the Drs run the hospitals.
