Suspended while any complaint against him is investigated? That would be the routine where I work.
even though he was right... approach was disproportionate maybe...but one of the nurses should have made the request earlier anyway
Question Author
237SJ.... probably right.....although I didn't know that anybody had complained.
Question Author
rowan....the camera crew had been given permission by the nursing staff, that as there were unlikely to touch a patient, rolled up sleeves etc were not needed.

The couldn't have prepared their visit any better.
Somebody must have complained about his behaviour I would have thought. If he`s got any sense he could say (during any investigation) that he was having a breakdown. It would be a shame to sack him. He acted like a prat but that`s not the end of the world. In some companies you`re "asked to resign". It`s a nicer way of getting rid without impacting on someone`s CV and loss of pension.
If he goes back to work maybe one condition will be that he drops the dickie bow. He won`t stand out as such a prat then.
It was not a sackable offence, has he had legitimate concerns about patients under his care. If he were to be sacked then he would have a fair claim for unfair dismissal.

That is not to say his actions did not embarrass the Hospital Trusts' administrators. They would have been very annoyed.

He hasn't resigned, or the Trust would have gladly announced it. Nor was it a breakdown.

I suspect they have told him to lay low, on full pay no doubt, until it all blows over, and he can quietly return.
Question Author
237SJ..."sack" was used "tongue in cheek"......NHS is the public sector and it is indeed extremely difficult to "sack" an employee.....doctors or otherwise.
Question Author
Gromit...LOL....maybe ...maybe.
I'm with the Consultant on this one, there are far too many 'clever clogs' politicians sticking their oar in where they are not wanted. DC & NC were no doubt disrupting the daily routine of the hospital. Ron.
quite right, W Ron; if Cameron turns up filming in my living room in order to publicise his plans to starve pensioners, I'll soon tell him where to go. Lot of sympathy for the consultant here. And now he can't work?
Question Author
whiskeryron....these photoshoots are "par for the course" for Politicians of ALL persuasions.
Ron

they were invited visitors.

If I invited people to my offices and an employee caused an embarassing scene like that I would be very unhappy with them.

I would also be concerned about whether they were fit to do their job if they could behave so inappropriately.
.
Photoshoots in a hospital are more vote catching than any electoral address. The politicians are completely at fault for wandering round a sterilised environment. Maybe the surgeon was acting the thoughts of what many people thought and should be recommended for having the truth to speak out. Unfortunately we know its not the medical stafff than run hospitals but the penpushers who like to throw their weight around.
It wasn't <a sterilised environment> it was a ward.

The visitors who were in close contact with patients were complying with instructions to roll up sleeves.

The others had asked and been told they didn't need to.

The visitors (like them or not) are representatives of the people who pay for the hospital ie Us.

The surgeon seemed more upset that others were getting away with a rule that he had to comply with. Do bow ties and pomposity naturally go together?
.
none the less, Zeuhl, he embarrasses his employers so he's suspended? Why should patients on his list suffer because the hotel bosses are embarrassed? This should be sorted out privately.
You know something is wrong when they send a memo like this round

// In a bid to prevent doctors speaking to the media about the issue, the Trust sent staff an internal memo warning them to keep quiet.

It read: ‘At this stage we do not know when Mr Nunn will return to the Trust. Staff should be aware that media may phone without identifying themselves as media. //
It is quite normal for any company to send out such a memo in the circumstances. What is the problem ?

<<<none the less, Zeuhl, he embarrasses his employers so he's suspended?>>>

How do we know that?

<<<<Unfortunately we know its not the medical stafff than run hospitals but the penpushers who like to throw their weight around.>>>

Just for the record and in my opinion doctors are cr@p administrators, believe me.

There is an incentive for doctors to enter into hospital medical politics and administration.....,merit awards which can add another £50,000 and more to your annual income. This involves spending more time in meetings and lees time with patients.

For God's sake, don't let the Drs run the hospitals.
