after reading this excuse
>> During his trial in February last year, Nottingham Magistrates' Court was told he suffered from depression and obsessive compulsive disorder, which led to him forgetting that he had left the dogs in his car as temperatures reached 29.3C. <<

can you imagine being arrested by him

i am arresting you
what for
can't remember :)
I saw that earlier, just heartbreaking for the poor dogs. I hope they take proper action.
I hope the owner/handler gets prosecuted for causing suffering to an animal. the fact they are police is irrelevant.
That is very odd, as though vans that carried dogs were always air conditioned. In some cases of animals transported by air they are better looked after than humans. I have seen this in a film somewhere, so it must be true.
Question Author
if the car or van is air conditioned when you turn off the ignition will that not stop the air condition unit ?
Agree with Chuck, there sould be no differance in the way "the police" are treated!

Poor dogs
Question Author
the big asda store at eastlands puts water outside for dogs when it is hot
I'm sure the water is handy for when the dogs unlock the cars and let themselves out to get it.
What a tragedy. Poor dogs. :o(
Question Author
some people take their dog for a walk leave them in the shade outside the store
give em a drink
then walk them home
The dogs were in the police officers' own car not the official dog-handlers air-conditioned van .
terrible yes, but national news on every bulletin ?
True ankou, obviously not much else to report.

Not the first time it has happened and wont be the last. I'm sure the law will take its course.
if nothing else this guy should have a life ban on keeping and working with animals
Allegedly the police officer who did this has done it before. He slashed his wrists after hearing that the dogs had died (this time, not last).
Well, I have some sympathy for the dog handler.

Yes, i am an animal lover and also feel that it was a tragic outcome for the dogs but i am also a student of human behaviour and human failings.

This handler had a love and devotion to his dogs as always is the case in these dog handler situations and just put yourself for a moment in the position of the policeman. A hot day, unusual in the UK, he, probably thinking of a dozen other problems on his way to a meeting, might or might not be late, gets out of that car and for one split second forgot to open the windows
In that moment there ensues a series of events that lead to the death of two dogs....a mistake...a tragic mistake....but how many of us can say that we have not made mistakes in our lives, some we may have got away with by the "Grace of God"

This guy was beside himself with grief and tried to commit suicide while his state of mind was unbalanced due to his mistake.

For the dogs, it is over.....but for him it is something that he will have to ive with for the rest of his life.

I for one, extend my sympathies.
is this the same chap who did this before ?
This is not the same officer as the other recent one anne, this one did the same thing back in July 2004.
This guy did not wish to harm his dogs and although his negligence caused their death it doesn't make him a bad person. Regretfully things like this happen and we should have sympathy rather than condemnation.
