Why does Britain need to dish out a further £52m worth of aid on top of the £13million donated by Britons to the DEC East Africa Crisis Appeal launched only a week ago, plus the annual amount we already give in aid to Africa, and the amount we are obliged to donate via The United Nations.?
How much are the wealthy countries of Africa giving from their Gold and Diamond mines?

Does that apply to the jobless and lazy people here who just take the tax payers money? We should just give and not expect them to help themselves. Before you come back at that, yes I know it's a completely different subject but by your saying you don't care who else gives as long as we do (shouldn't we have the choice, don't always assume everyone agrees with yours), does it mean that you will just give endlessly without trying to rectify the problem at source?

A £52million emergency aid package has been put together by the Government to help millions of drought victims in the Horn of Africa.
International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell said the cash would be used to support starving people across Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya hit by the worst drought in over half a century.
Nowhere does it state
// Britain giving a few million, overnight the whole of the 'Horn of Africa' is going to be drought free, cholera and other diseases free, plus the luxury of 4 meals a day for all? //

// So you don't believe in helping oneself then Gromit? //
Of course I believe in helpings ones self. I would rather my money bought medicines for people who might die if they don't get them than give it to the scum I see sat outside Wetherspoon's at 9am in the morning.
// shouldn't we have the choice //
You did have the choice. The Conservatives said that aid would be ring fenced in their election manifesto, and more people voted for them than anyone else. So they have a mandate to dish out our dosh wherever they think it is needed.

Give a dying of thirst man in the desert, the choice of a chest full of money or a canteen of water, which one would he choose?
No instead of throwing £millons at the problem, why doesn't the government grant contracts to British firms to go out there and attend to some of the various problems, both medical and constructional.
If they insisted that these firms/companies sent out British workers also, then we wouldn't need to send out cash, and at the same time they would be supporting British industries and providing work for British workers.
Much better than granting contracts to foreign companies, don't you think?

So as with most discussion threads on here we all have to agree to disagree, not a bad thing really as everyone has different viewpoints. However I do find it rather bad sport to put words where they were never said or intimated in a thread. One should take the thread in question and not hark back to previous threads, each has its own merit and should be taken on that, not what the OP said or mentioned before IMO.
Whoever is living there and whatever the history the fact is that that area of the world cannot properly sustain human existence. It has not just been that way since last week, it has been like it for as long as I can remember, with occasional short intervals where life might have been marginally bearable.
It makes absolutely no sense to continue to facilitate human reproduction in that godforsaken place. It makes no sense to sustain women who have 5.4 children each when three quarters of those infants are going to die a slow, painful and wretched death before they reach adulthood. Some way must be found to depopulate the region.
As has been said, the people currently there are reproducing in an attempt to “ensure continuence”. That is precisely the opposite of what is needed. I’d like to think that the better off nations (well, those who feel the need to address this problem) can find a way to achieve depopulation by curbing reproduction (to as close as nil as possible) as part of their aid package. Any solution must involve this strategy because simply chucking millions of pounds into the area every two or three years is an absolute waste. It may save a few lives, but it simply perpetuates the problem.
Every time we are told we cannot desert these people in their time of need because, apparently, it is largely the fault of Europeans that they face this plight. Nonetheless, if the inhabitants cannot already see or cannot be educated to see that their presence there is unsustainable then regrettably nature must take its course.

If these people had a choice, they would probably prefer to live in Chipping Norton. However, Ethiopia is their birthplace and they have to make the best of it. Life is hard and occasionally, the rains fail and make things even harder. If we can help them at that time, why not.
If you believe the 82million Ethiopians should vacate the place, are you offering they should move here?

Did I actually say that that passage was included in my link??????
NO, that was referring to your rather simplistic attitude, to the problem.
A little sarcastic maybe, but never included in my link.
