He said he did not help his chum's daughter get a job, all he did was make a few notes on her CV and forward it on to HR. Does he really think that a CV forwarded by him would be turned down or ignored? Its as good as giving it a stamp of approval.

It was ever so lyn and will always be the same. It's not what you know but who you know.

So true. I recall one of my bosses getting the Print Dept to do all his daughter's wedding invitations for free! Had one of the workers asked for such a freebie, he/she would be booted out. But noone would say No to a boss.
Yes, happens all the time. Not too much wrong with that - life's not always as fair as it should be.

However Mr Yates contends that he "had absolutely nothing to do with Ms Wallace's job application. He was merely acting as a postbox". Yeah, right. I wonder how often an Assistant Commissioner "acts as a postbox" or why it was necessary on this occasion. And like you lyn, I wonder who in Scotland Yard’s HR department would look unfavourably on a job application where the applicant’s CV had a “few notes” penned on it by the Yard’s second in command. (I wonder what he found necessary to pen. I'm guessing something like "make sure this gets approved").

It’s a shame because Mr Yates was a fine copper. But his involvement with Neil Wallace (whom he describes as “an old mate”) has put paid to a fine career.
Wasn't he the police in charge of the misjudged cash for honours debacle
The CV could have been handed in directly to HR.
He was about to be suspended over this, I hardly think just acting as a post box would get a suspension
