Is Cameron right in fearing China's growing influence in Africa, or is it just sour grapes?

/// Mr Cameron said: ‘It is now possible to imagine an Africa no longer dependent on aid, and a real source of growth for the whole world.///

Yeh, and when is this going to happen?

I think he has come to the conclusion that after pumping £mns of taxpayers money as aid into the country and getting no return on it realises that China not only helps the Africans to progress but has a return on the money it invests. Much more sensible for both parties!
Well, the Chinese own the US National Debt, and I believe they have been supplying the money to bail out Portugal etal, then why not African countries as well.

The European colonial powers didn't exactly do much for Africa other than plunder its natural resources.
China is making inroads everywhere, mining etc. If China invests in Africa, why should Cameron be afraid of it, of no longer needing to give aid to Africa?

In answer to Gromit's anti-European post.

/// The European colonial powers didn't exactly do much for Africa other than plunder its natural resources.///

Taken from a web site discussion on the subject.

/// The Europeans brought to the continent, an end to tribal warfare, they brought forth a rule of law, they gave them infrastructure that included a unified government, roads, running water, sanitation, education, electricity and communications, none of which existed prior to their arrival. And, since their departure at the end of the colonial period: we've seen a return to tribal warfare, genocide and an almost complete departure from government the rule of law.///

/// Most of all they brought an end to the slave trade- even fighting several wars in order to end that practice. The biggest slave markets on the continent were in Khartoum and Zanzibar- and both were closed by British soldiers. ///

/// Nowadays it is fashionable to speak of slavery as if it had been invented by the Americans. Far from it- 95% of the African slaves ended up in Arabia and Turkey. And 99% of them lived extremely short and brutal lives ///
so you just nicked someone elses personal post from another q&a forum ?
China's pouring money into Africa - I saw a big Chinese-built dam in Sudan a few months ago.

Sudan has oil.
