I tried to vote on some of the HMG petitions which we are now being
"encouraged to do" but in reality it takes a while to find the site and when you do try to vote there is always some excuse.
However in case I'm doing something wrong I thought I would give the URL and see if anyone has more success.

no joy, i clicked on the sign here bit, but came up with message, sorry there is a problem with this site...
Yes me too
Even if there is a petition and a debate on the return of hanging I can't see the flog em and hang em brigade swinging it.
i got in ok but says the e-petion thing starts today and no petition created yet
sandyroe, poor choice of words, no?
Trying to crack a joke. :-( They somehow never look as funny on the screen as they seem when you think them up.

macduff You should have seen have dozens of petitions listed both private and government but its when you click ' View' you get the ' sorry there is a problem on this site.' You say the e-petition thing stars today. Could that be a different site ?

sandy I wasn't referring to the hanging debate but to the ability to vote on any subject . There dozens of petitions covering all departments if you can access.
Especially when they seem to go over everyone's head.

Sorry sandy I'm a bit thick today . Yes good joke !
You just have to click the right links I think.

If you want to hold your hands up to being in the "hang 'em high" brigade.
it didn't OG.
aha when i went to the home page, i got a listing by depaartment and found them
Must be a 'pot luck' thing then. Asking for all petitions failed for me. Going via the department selection first, worked. Suggest trying later then.
Seems the web-site crashed as soon as it went on line, due to the huge response on capital punishment.

I may have finally succeeded and got as far as receiving an email which needed me to click and verify but it crashed again. It was interesting to see that the government said the response was greater than expected which again shows how out of touch they are. They are receiving 1000 calls a minute which doesn't surprise me or most people but our Lord and Masters think they know better.
They are turning the public into mass hacking. What we are asked to do is the same as attacking a web site to put it out of business or denial of service.
Maybe there should be more bandwidth to cope with all these replies.
The news sites seem to be saying that the fact that there are e.g. 40+ petitions asking for capital punushment to be brought back compared to there being only 7-ish petitions for the status to remain no-capital punishment means that there is mass support for it to be brought back. Surely there should be one petition for each thing? Unless there are substantial differences may I hasten to add.

If it is allowed to grow this on line petitining could reintroduce democracy.
At last we have the opportunity to easily express our true opinions in government .
At the moment we vote for a party which is nearest to our opinion but it may still be miles away to what we really believe. That is why we vote for fringe parties which at least will express something which we feel strongly about. eg UKIP, GREENS, BNP etc. but their reps. are still lone voices in Westminster..
Now with on line petitions we have the opportunity to let the MPs know how we really feel.
I believe the MPs will live to regret it , like they did with the freedom of information act, when it exposed how crooked the politicians are.
Let us hope they don't find a way to suppress this new freedom . I bet they will try.
