Mark Duggen shooting
The story was quickly planted that the police were shot at and an officer hit which resulted in the fatal shot (or shots) that killed Duggen.
Now the Daily Mail are reporting that the bullet recovered from a police radio was a police one. Curious?

// A Father of four was shot dead after apparently injuring a police officer in a terrifying shoot-out on a street in north London last night.
A gun was found at the scene and a spokesman for the independent police watchdog said it appeared the officer was shot first before police returned fire. //
// However, there are conflicting reports about the shooting. One report said the gunman opened fire at an officer whose life was saved when the bullet hit his radio. The officer was taken to hospital with minor injuries and discharged last night.
However, a 20-year-old witness, who works nearby but did not want to be named, said: "I was coming home from work when I saw it all happening in front of my eyes.
"I came around the corner and saw about six unmarked police cars cornering a people carrier near a bus stop.
"I heard the police shout something like 'Don't move' and I saw them drag the driver out of the car. I don't know if they dragged the other guy out in the passenger seat. He was the one who got shot - the passenger.
"About three or four police officers had both men pinned on the ground at gunpoint. They were really big guns and then I heard four loud shots. The police shot him on the floor." //

It will be intetesting to see which version of events proves to be accurate. And how the officer was shot with police ammunition.

Another witness said something different at the time the original shooting was reported:
"Local resident David Akinsanya said he arrived at the scene moments after the incident.
He said he was told by a witness that a police officer had shouted to the man to stop "a couple of times", but the man had not heeded the warning."
Now, in truth, there may not actually be a contradiction between these testimonies (or there may be) - we can only see what the press are showing us. Until the report comes out I'd suggest that it's probably a little pointless to speculate over random tidbits the media fnds out about.

// The latest developments come as one community organiser suggested the handgun recovered was found in a sock and therefore not ready for use. It is likely to fuel anger on the streets of Tottenham and elsewhere in London if it provides evidence that officers were not under attack at the time they opened fire on Duggan. //

the police do make a habit of unleashing their spin doctors as soon as they've killed anyone - that's why they're so chummy with News Intl (who have always been more supportive of the Met than other newspapers). It generally turns out they're lying - remember the rubbish they spouted about de Menezes - but it makes no difference, nobody's ever guilty of anything
The cab drivers where I live are very keen on evening baseball matches. That can be the only reason most of them carry a bat in their cabs late night. Possibly, the gun did not belong to Duggan at all, but was the cab drivers'.
If it was in a sock hidden in the cab, it will be quickly known if it was fired or not. What is known, is that the gun recovered was not police issue, but the bullet that injured the police officer was.

He didn't exactly sound like a pillar of the community though did he?
