With Manchester kicking off, there's a danger that pictures may show many of the rioters to be white.

If that turns out to be the case, what will be the reaction from the racists who have been muttering 'rivers of blood' and 'perils of mass immigration'?

If there's a lack of black and Asian faces in the forthcoming pictures, should we have a 12 hour moratorium before demanding an explanation to give them time to come up with (the inevitably feeble) excuse?

What it IS is a national tragedy for those directly affected (whatever colour they are) by the activities of these criminal gangs......whatever colour 'they' are.

So - seeing as we can see that this is a cross-racial story, can we put the 'ethnic aspect' to bed, and concentrate on the fact that race aside, these are scumbags.

At the time of the Toxteth Riots in July 1981 there were copycat riots in several northern council estates, most of them abortive as there was no local reason for rioting apart from criminality. The same is happening now. There is little difference between black disaffected youth and white when they are chucking half bricks and worse.
