I think you still can in some shops, however there is a dominance of haribo style sweets now which im not a fan of

a local shop sells some sweets like milk bottles, cola cubes, though im not sure what they cost.

you can buy them at tescos but its like a bag of fried eggs or a bag of cola bottles rather than a mix, most of the mixes are full of gums

I remember when I was a kid and there was a shop called the candy kabin that sold sweets but the woman behind the counter was so big and huge and had a grumpy face that no kids would go in so they would go up the hill to the news agents to get the penny sweets there but it was by the doorway and many used to just rob them on the way out, They was a penny each but I'm sure if they still do em now youl be paying at least 10p for a penny sweet! It's perfetic the prices of things these days!

Blackjacks were 4 for an old penny (1d) - that's like 10 for 1p now- when I were a lad.

There are a few shops round here that still stock them in the jars and weigh them out...You can get all the old sweets.

How many centuries ago was that then, crisgal? I can remember 1p sweets but not the old pre-decimal currency. Can anyone here remember that?

of course lots of people on here can remember old money,
I remember getting 2 ounces of pineapple chunks for 3d.
Lasted for ages.
