Is it true that Bill Bratton is to be taken on as Cameron's adviser? If so, then sense is prevailing at last.

Why should we import an American martinet? Have we none of our own?
Question Author
From DM today
...he took over the scandal-plagued Los Angeles police in 2002, and again helped turn the city around.
Under his leadership, crime there dropped for six years in a row, including a 24 per cent fall in homicides which relieved the city of its title as America's murder capital.
Just a month into the job, he was confronted by demonstrators angry at the deaths of two teenagers in a car which crashed after police had shot at it.
When the protesters demanded, 'Control your officers', Mr Bratton simply replied: 'Control your kids.' What's wrong with that?
While DC is about it, bring over Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona to sort our prisons out to be cost effective.
It's no good importing or appointing martinets if they are not given the necessary power and they wont be. The liberals of this country and the EU wont allow it.
modeller is correct, they won't be given the necessary powers to do the job.Anyway the sort of people who have been rioting recently will just see these outsiders as a special challenge.
// "We have seen a significant drop in crime over the last ten years which represents our continued focus on tackling these offences and bringing criminals to justice." //

We have had improved crime figures, particularly in lLondon for the past decade. Unfortunately, this present shambles of a Government are undoing the good work in record time. Bill Bratten would make no difference when the politicians giving him orders are this inept.
sodding labour knackering the figures up :)

He is just coming over to share some advice with Cobra et al, not to take over as head of the Met or anything like that - that's what he said on the Beeb news this morning and surely hearing what he has done and learning about better/best practice should be encouraged - something that we Brits are not good at doing and hence in managing change.
Then we can overhaul our prisons, make them a punishment. Take a look at this.http://www.snopes.com/politics/crime/arp

He is, but many won't see it that way, im sure.
I believe he has been here before, and as to his advisory role, don't see why not, if the person has experience, we should be using it.
