all those extraction jobs carry the risk of death, coal mining, metal mining, quarrying, fishing......it is a tragedy and for the families and community involved. My background involved the quarrying aspect and I can remember growing up with the occasional tragic accident.

I must say conditions looked very primitive in the mine entrance and I just wonder how much HSE there was on the operations - however, this is not the time though I am sure there will be some of inquest. The families have more immediate matters - I hope no ABers are affected through relatives etc....

It's so sad isn't it? The last I heard yesterday was the rescue team saying they were confident that there would be a good outcome. My heartbreaks for those poor families, I understand one of the miners that escaped was son to one of those that died.

I've just watched the news, but I can't make out how they died. We're they drowned, crushed, what? What a horrible way to die. Poor sods.

Mining must be one of the most horrible jobs in existence. Working underground in that dark and enclosed space is bad enough, and then to get trapped and killed by it, I can't think of anything worse.

A 'controlled' explosion inside the mine caused a flood. However from later reports the rescuers seemed to be clearing mud so possibly it was a mixture!!

It was such a small mine too. Employing only 7 people
