The scientists believe there is a satellite the size of a double
decker bus about to hit earth, but they have no idea where it will land.
If it were to fall on a town or city, how much damage could it do. Why wouldn't it burn up in the atmosphere>

Has that refuse shuttle from the ISS crashed into us yet? I believe that was set to fall in the ocean.
do they the time. As I need to take the dog out for a couple hours. Perhaps i should wear a hardhat just in case ((( ;o)
not Paris though how about Eurodisney......that would be a good target...
It was interesting to hear someone on the radio yesterday claim that because the chances of anyone being hit by a piece are 3200 to 1, therefore one had a much greater chance of winning the lottery. In fact one is several thousand times more likely to win the lottery (not me, I don't do the lottery :-) )

if i get hit by any piece of this thing who should i sue, NASA? or whoever shunted the thing up there in the first place.
please can anyone tell me what time is this due to happen, would like to plan my day ;-)
Curses! I've just cut the grass!
why haven't we heard from health and safety, surely they must have done a risk assessment ? :-)
"if i get hit by any piece of this thing who should i sue, NASA? or whoever shunted the thing up there in the first place. "

If you get hit I don't think you'll be in a fit state to sue anyone.
But look on the bright side, you will go down in history as the first person ever known to have been hit by a piece of falling satellite debris, on a 1 in 21 trillion chance. You will be famous in pub quizzes for evermore!!
Well yes Vulcan they have that's where the 3,200:1 figure comes from
Once again in cash strapped Britain the government are lagging behind.

I 1939 they had it all under control, and we were issued with Tin Hats and Shelters all free of charge.

I wonder if the Yanks will send a crew up to 'nudge' it off course, and we will all be saved in the nick of time?

Ickeria, people get hit by falling debris from aircraft, so no reason to be sniffy.
Just trying to inject an element of humour amid the hysteria
"I wonder if the Yanks will send a crew up to 'nudge' it off course, and we will all be saved in the nick of time? "

Apologies if you're joking, but the thing IS off course. That's why it's coming down. There's nothing anyone can do to stop it.
I have an old tin hat I am going to wear into town in a minute. I am not taking any chances.
Question Author
It's not hysteria, just a bit of information and to some extent what happens next.
aah see AOG, us youngester are resourceful folk, a tin pan will do as a makeshift helmet! I dunno, the fogeys of today, want everything handed to them on a plate!! ;)
Satellites have been falling to earth in bits for years, some of them quite big. And no one has been hit yet, but I agree that sooner or later, at odds of 3200-1 ...

I believe that all satellites now must be designed so as not to survive as far as the earth's atmosphere on orbital decay.
pa___ul3, you'll be laughing on the other side of your face when you're in A&E waiting for a pot removing specialist to see you like something out of the Beano! :D
it's OK douglas, I've thought it through, I'm going to borrow one of my mums big stew pans... big Stew will have to find his own!
Can we all go and hold magnets outside Nick Legg's house?
