Well that's it then ~ now is the time when we are open for invasion, we ain't got an army on our shores, they are all off fighting someone else's war, we have no aircraft to defend our shores, Nimrod aircraft all been scrapped along with The Harrier Jet, no sailors to put into moth-balled ships, no aircraft carriers, these also been scrapped. If this government thinks in time of strife all our youngsters of today will take up arms to defend this country they are living in Cloud Cuckoo Land. Thank goodness I am in my eighties and aint got long to go in this life, our wonderful government have reduced my pension, they have taken away part of my heating allowance, up has gone the price of food and commodities, when I pass away my family will not be able to bury me as the cost of a funeral has escalated, still they haven't left any dead person on top YET.

sp, many people have contributed to Britain and its economy, and not all are bigots and whatnot. But there comes a time when you see so many who have paid nothing into the system, and received a lot out of it. Your folks may not be in that category, but there are plenty who are, not just immigrants.
wefare state benefits should not extend it's hand to all unsundry, not till one has earned it.

You are quite right, sp. Not all immigrants to the UK are lazy good-for-nothing scroungers. Most of them are hard working folk with bags of self-respect who work hard for themselves and their families and who make a great contribution to the UK And similarly not all the lazy good-for-nothing scroungers are immigrants. Many of them are home-bred.
HOWEVER (!!!) the issue relevant to this question is that there are increasing numbers of people being allowed to settle on these shores either as a result of EU “free movement” regulations or as a result of lax immigration or so-called asylum policies who have no intention of contributing to this country and who are simply here to screw the UK taxpayer for all they can.
This troubles large numbers of people here (including many of the immigrants who do make a valuable contribution). They do not pay their taxes to see them handed over to such people. Whilst I accept that some people may tar all immigrants with the same brush, most people are more than capable of discriminating between those who have come here to work and make a contribution and those who have not. These people are not bigots. They are worried about the invasion by stealth of their nation.
I don’t see any respondents to this question who “characterise immigrants to the UK as benefits-grabbing layabouts”, The answers seem to have been mainly considered and well put. I don’t see any great levels of “sheer ignorance” shown in this question. There is no doubt that the level of uncontrolled immigration to the UK is causing a number of people (me included) huge concern. They must not be dismissed as bigots as they have a valid point which should be heard.

Well Jake
About leaving .I did and what a move it was I live in a European country and the place is clean ,the people are respectful and far more honest ,the country is beautiful and my lifestyle is much much better .It is also run by a coalition government which, as far as I can see is the best system ,as you don't get this changeover and blame policy which the British seem to suffer gladly So get up and leave it really can be better
Oh where am I ? sorry don't want to spoil it but there is a utopia

Further evidence that the immigrant=benefit scrounger equation is bull:

That's as may be, suggest that no one gets a penny out of the public purse, unless that have put into it first. Radical but you know the welfare, state benefit system is paid to too many who have paid nothing into it. Work, and when contributed sufficiently to the economy, then if you need help, you get it. It won't happen, we are a welfare dependant country.
I think you might have to get used to being ********* infuriated, sp because eventually (and very belatedly) the matter will be heard and hopefully resolved. Not before irreversible damage has been caused though.
As I think I said in my follow up post, not all immigrants are benefit scroungers and not all benefit scroungers are immigrants. But there is no doubt that large numbers of people come from afar to the UK with either no intention of contributing or no ability to contribute to the well being of the country.
Many people already here (including some settled immigrants) are concerned about this, especially bearing in mind the dire economic straits the country finds itself in. There is no reason on earth why the UK taxpayer should pick up the bill for the sustenance of such people. It is not what they pay their taxes for. What is outrageous, and what ********* infuriates me is that anybody who raises these legitimate concerns is howled down as a bigot, a racist, a xenophobe or more usually all three and worse.
It ill behoves you or anybody else to level the charge of bigotry against people who have a genuinely held point of view just because you don’t happen to agree with it.

I don't have any "sources" I wish to expand upon, sp. It is my opinion based on material I have read and gathered. You can find your own material to expand upon if you wish.
You may find it is an opinion shared by many people in the UK (all of whom, no doubt, you will similarly accuse of ignorance) . It is unfortunate that it is not an opinion you share and even more unfortunate that you should choose to villify people whose opinion you do not share (not something I think you can accuse me of).
Nonetheless your villification will not prevent me or others from having our views aired.
