In a nation where it's always hissing down, how can we possibly be short of water? Where does it go?

Same in Brighton area.
Because it rains in the wrong places? As has been said, there's hardly been any rain for months in the east. Here in NI we seem to be getting their share, and more.
a lot of it gets out through leaky pipes, which is why Thames Water have been renewing all the Victorian water pipes in London over the last 5 years or so. Other areas presumably have the same problems unless their owners have been mroe diligent.

And as said, some of it isn't falling in the first place. It depends where you are.
The reservoirs round here are 12 inches below the norm for this time of year - and o joy, we have all the added visitors for the Olympics coming next year. Goodness knows where the water will come from for all those extra people.
In places like Harlow they have treatment centres that take in your urine, process it, and recycle the water for human consumption. Tastes no different but all in the mind.
They say those in the East End of London can be drinking water recycled seven times through previous humans.....Nice.
Yes it seems drought conditions are upon a lot of us and will be even more as the months go by unless we have a significant amount of rain. Not only does it "rain in the wrong place", there are in my opinion, too many people in these islands using too much of the little we have.... Yet another reason we should not be increasing the population here as we just cannot keep up with supplying the necessities......
Too many people waste too much water without even thinking about it. When you have a water meter it makes you very aware of how much you are using. If I was the Dictator of these fair isles I would insist everybody had one and anyone who refused would be shot.
Agree with you LB however, nowadays people will pay out and pay again if they want something so it's not a deterrent because they will even get into debt if they want something bad enough and I should imagine that would even include water, gas, electricity.

But at least they will be paying for what they use Daisya which I think is right. It's a commodity, same as gas and electricity.
Yes I know LB but if the meters are to help towards reducing consumption...paying for it is fine but doesn't help towards drought conditions. Personally with us being on an island I feel they should build desalination plants as I'm sure one day we will be in dire straights regarding water shortages.
daisya my hope would be that if folks all had meters they would be more careful with it and consumption would go down.

Eddie perhaps there should be a two tier water system here, why on earth do we use clean water to flush the loo's, it's a terrible waste. I wish they would do something about that so that we keep the good clean water for drinking and washing ourselves and not so clean/used water for flushing loo's etc.

Thanks Eddie, can see just how bad the rainfall is in your area, very interesting data on there.
