It would depend entirely on the circumstances - I would be more likely to ring 999.

lol, yeah i agree with that, but what i meant was that if you saw and knew the police could not get there fast enough and it was like a spur in the moment thing, would you help or walk away?
Again - depends on the circumstances, and weapons being used, etc.
Question Author
ok
Also I don't think you could say before something actually happens, it's more a moment in time situation....you won't know until faced with the it and I would hope I never would be.
Question Author
ok
I have helped a few years ago but doubt I would be capable of doing anything nowadays.
Question Author
why, what did you do?
Yes I would and have done in the past-if everyopne did it then people wouldn't be attacked in the streets.
Depends on circumstances, of course.

If there was a major affray with lots of people fighting with guns & knives would you choose a side and wade in? No.

If you saw a pensioner being kicked by one puny thug, and you were bigger and fitter? Yes, probably.
what if you were elderly, frail or in ill health?, you couldnt be expected to jump into action against an attacker, you would not be able to physically help other than phone 999
I think that goes without saying Cazz- no-one expects a 80 year old wheelchair bound lady to wade into half a dozen gang members with knives, but if your average man on the street had less of a tolerance for just walking past someone getting ebaten up then there would be considerably less of it happening.
siths first reply to boxtops didnt take that into account nox which is why I mentioned it.
i have helped a lady who was being beaten up in the street by her bloke, i didnt know them but no-one else seemed to be doing anything. Ended up my mate being hit by baseball bat as i ducked lol. And then the bloke taking kids hostage with a gun. Shouldnt have bothered as she went back to him a week later.
I did recently, albeit outside a pub on a Saturday night a young boy hitting a young girl,I sent him off with a thick ear. But i was saddened by the number of youngsters who stood around and watched.
sith would, no doubt, throw his Koran at him/her/them.....

one has to way up the circumstances before wading in - the very fact that you are witnessing them usually panics the attacker. But in principle yes.

However, how about this for being brazen - last Saturday lunchtime in Truro for rank chutzpah - surely there must have been folk about as it's a popular cut-through

DT, that remark about sith's not necessary, and besides he wouldn't, it's a great insult to the Koran (as you know) for it to lie on the floor (especially out of doors).

Groupie - trouble is these days, you run the risk of being sued for giving the lad a thick ear....
Its actually a very difficult one to give an answer to. if a woman is being attacked by a crazed knifeman, I think most men would say Yes I would go in and help, but how likely are you to defeat the knifeman? he is armed you are not. If you go in and get killed or injured and no longer able to support your family etc, would it have been worth it? bearing in mind that this other women was still going to get what he was going to do to her!

At the end of the day I think it is instinctive, many who say they would go in, wouldn't and many who they wouldn't go in, actually would. You really dont know until you are in that position.
apologies then to sith - actually I didnt know that Boxie, defacement yes - thanks for the pull up
At the risk of sounding like the forum police I have to ask why this thread is in News?

I was expecting a link to a 'have-ago-hero' type story, or similar.
