it's very closely fought, but only in the sense that each front-runner lasts about an hour and a half. And unless I miss my guess not one of them stands a chance against no-drama Obama when the real election comes round.

By 2016 the Republicans may have decided to target the centrist vote again rather than the Tea Party fringe, and the Democrats will be looking for a successor, so that will be interesting. But in 2012 it will take a tsunami to dislodge the incumbent.

Bachmann is already married, tragically, The Builder. She believes homosexuality is sexual dysfunction and "personal enslavement" that leads to "sexual anarchy." (according to Wikipedia); fortunately her husband is a therapist who claims to be able to cure it, so that's nice.

I have an interest, in that the possibility of one of them becoming the most powerful person on the planet, given what I have read in the American press (and I read a fair bit) it appears collectivley, if brains were gun powder and you lit a match not one of them would lose the top of their skulls.

At the moment the infighting between them is nasty, personal and missing the issues. A decent democracy needs a strong opposition and it doesn't appear that the Republicans are capable of finding a decent candidate
Even the pro right wing press in the US seems at a loss of who to endorse.

Am I right in believing that every one of the candidates is of the religious persuasion that believes dinosaurs and man once roamed the earth simultaneously? And the victor may become the most powerful person on the planet! Sheesh!

Romney has had an excellent standing as Guv of Massachusetts - a reputation for cost cutting in a quintessically Democratic State. It's his religious background that gives cause for concern over there, as per the last Rep nomination process.
