Clever dog! The only thing I ever saw similar were tightrope walking dogs on an old newsreel when I was visiting my kids in Germany, but they were much smaller jack russell type things and looked as though it was from the 30's.

Ive seen something similar and i think it was on here. It wasnt a dog though, i think it was goats and i think they were balancing on poles or something. If i remember right some people thought it was cruel, but there were pics of goats (if it was goats) balancing in trees so i guess they just like doing it.... not too sure about training a dog 5 hours a day though.....
