Murdoch makes so much money from his Sky services the papers he owns are an irrelevance. So not only will he be unconcerned about the Sun closure his other title 'The Times' could also be given the chop. This paper is a loss maker.

The Times has lost money since the year dot; proprietors like it because of the influence it brings them. Sure enough, prime ministers will crawl on hands and knees through fields of broken glass to get to Rupert Murdoch's pole dancing evenings. He won't be selling it unless he really has to. If he does, there will be people ready to buy it (the oligarch who owns the Standard would take it).
