At last the police take some positive action against the gangs of London.
/// Mayor of London Boris Johnson said tackling gangs was the top crime priority for London. ///
/// ''We've been attacking gangs from all angles. Now the Met has a concerted and determined push to take out the ring-leaders and tempt impressionable youngsters away from this destructive life,'' he added. ///
On Radio LBC this morning Mayor Johnson said "they aimed to offer apprenticeships and membership to uniformed youth organisation", to these so called 'impressionable youngsters'.
Can you see any of these vicious little thugs joining the Scouts or Boy's Brigade etc.?
And why do you first have to be a gang member before you are offered what many law-abiding youths would only be please to attain, that being an apprenticeship?

Quite unlikely. In fact, I grew up in south London and I have no recollection of any scouts/boy's brigade organisations anywhere near us.
And wouldn't that be a very wet bandage on a very large open wound?
Its not just after-school activities that are needed - a 'holistic' approach is required. How are their schools doing? Where do they fall in the latest Ofsted reports? What are their living conditions? Are they related to other gang members? Do they come from low income families? What percentage of their schoolmates went onto university (NOT college), what is the youth unemployment figures in the area? How many single parent families? What are the figures for drug arrests.
Etc etc...

/// How are their schools doing? Where do they fall in the latest Ofsted reports? ///
What are the truancy numbers?
/// What are their living conditions? ///
Why would this have any effect on their need to join in knife crime and shootings? there are many law abiding and under privileged kids that live in poor living conditions?
/// Are they related to other gang members? ///
This could have a bearing on them getting into a life of crime, roll model and all that. Solution remove their relative.
/// Do they come from low income families? ///
As already said there are many law abiding low income families
/// What percentage of their schoolmates went onto university (NOT college), ///
Are you saying that only kids that are not academically minded, revert to a life of crime?
/// what is the youth unemployment figures in the area? ///
About the same as other such areas, but who don't feel the need to form violent gangs.
/// How many single parent families? ///
Admit this is a problem with some black families, but once again there are many single parent families that are are able to bring up their children to be perfectly law abiding citizens.
/// What are the figures for drug arrests. ///
I am sure the Met has the figure, and this is one of the reasons why they are now taking action against these gangs.

// I think the point Philtaz was making is that often when "certain" people are arested it seems like it is used as an excuse to go on a riot, attack policemen, burn out cars, and generally destroy the very area you live in. //
And what really pisses them off is being shot through the head a point blank range and then issuing a pack of lies. That is when people get really cross.
