Will we read less from AOG?
// Elderly people should be encouraged to go back to work and move into smaller homes, one of David Cameron’s key advisers said last night. //
http://www.telegraph....ork-and-downsize.html
// He also suggested that elderly people who did not move to smaller homes were contributing to the shortage of housing in England. //
This is an outrageous attack on our more senior citizens and represents a Government that has list touch with the people.
I will miss AOGs daily musings, but on the plus side, seeing a fully stacked shell in Aldi is also satisfying.

David Cameron should go out and get a proper job.

I totally agree with Ab Editor, suggesting that you should move out of your home, social housing or not, is vile, it's up to the respective governments and councils to sort out housing, and not shove the elderly into a cupboard because someone needs your place. That person may have worked all their lives, have children, grandchildren in the area, as well as friends and support groups, sometimes i wonder at people who think it's ok to sideline the elderly this way. I would tell Cameron and his advisor to feck off.

Eh? AOG has his friends who have similar view and who will defend him if he is being attacked (Wrongly in this instance). But I think you are wrong to suggest he has written under another user name. That is not his style. If he is offended, I am sure he will tell me himself.

Gromit, i don't think AOG writes under another name, as you said not his style. Besides which if AOG is let loose in B&Q imagine the havoc that might cause. I am not going stacking shelves in any place, if they want me to go back to work then provide me with an income that will suffice, most of these borderline paid jobs would likely mean you get little or no help from the government, so you will end up on the breadline, perhaps that cameron wants.
I am sure (as I can be) That a number of his "friends" are him. I have called him on it a couple of times. Those who do support him argue points or make their own points. His friends who say things like "quite right" or "disgraceful to attack him" etc and then dissapear for a while are him plain and simple.
At one point someone would criticise him and a completely new user would come in and defend him.
I still can't decide if he thinks hes a clever bloke, who patently isn't or a troll.

You spend all your life trying to accumulated wealth and finally get enough for a decent sized residence and some idiot wants you to go into SMALLER accommodation.
You spend all your life contributing to the economy until you finally realise it is another person's right and responsibility to take over from you whilst you get a well earned rest, especially in these times of high unemployment, and some idiot wants you to try to get reemployed still and continue to work until you drop whilst others remain on welfare.
What is the qualification to be an advisor ? Half a brain maybe ?

Davethedog,
Surprisingly, there are very many who share AOGs views but have luttle to add other than "Totally agree with AOG" (That's catchy, they should sell window stickers. AOG like to throw in provocative posts, but yhat does not make him a troll. And he has been here years, and trolls usually get quickly bored.
As I say, AOG has many supporters, he has no need to invent any.

O_G...Most of my may mates cant wait to downsize.........me included. you have worked all your life, struggled with a mortgage, rates, heating bills. kept rooms open for the kids and their kids to return.........and then one thinks not of the family but of one's self. downsizing is more popular than you think and is a very sensible move....in my opinion.
Yes, I agree....the choice must be yours.
After 4-5 years of retirement one often hears........" I would just love another part-time job, say 2 days a week"
Again the choice should be yours.

Gromit, having read through all the replies in response to your initial post, I have come to the conclusion that I should indeed return to work. As a retired teacher of English I think you should employ me to give you a few lessons in spelling, punctuation etc. My hourly rates are rather generous in view of the fact that, even though retired, I seem to pay our Government rather a lot of tax.
