/// Die, die, foreigners!" the demonstrators shouted. Some fired hunting guns into the air. Others threw rocks at the gate of the base. ///

Dear, oh dear, I wonder what would have happened had some took a similar stance against those individuals who burned both our flag and poppies?

a mistake was made, apologies issued, meetings arranged, a peaceful end.

nuffink more to be said.
I guess that you are not the only one who dislikes foreigners AOG.

It is a frightening thought that thousands of miles away there are bearded AOGs with no access to Afghanistan AnswerBank who have no other outlet than to shout in the street.
Taking an old hobby-horse out for a trot around the paddock, AOG?
I have opined before about the fundamental (excuse the pun!) difference in religion between Muslims and Christians. The Muslim faith is not the 'add-on' that it is in Western lives, it is woven into the fabric of their existence, so the burning of the Koran, albeit accidental, is a serious upset for them, coupled with the perception that the Western soldiers neither understand or care about what their faith means to them.

So we can be flippant about it, they cannot. Cultural differences are important, and the fact that some numpty extremists cause offence over here does not mitigate a far greater upset being caused over there.
LOL jack!
But how did the news get out?

If I were in charge of rubbish disposal, and had made this mistake, I would've ensured it was hushed up and if necessary lied through my teeth about it.

Has anyone else clocked that the last part of the word 'fundamentalist' is 'mentalist'?
afghan labourers stoking the fire noticed the books sp.

by focussing on da mentalist, you are taking the fun out of it.

Perhaps I along with this Lady are just seeking a 'level playing field'?
AOG,
If that woman has a contract and it states she is exempt from working sundays, then I hope she wins her case. If she does not have such a written assurance, then she will lose. The matter of muslims being given Friday off is just hearsay. She would have to prove that is the case, not just believe that is the case. Most muslims I know are happy to work on Friday, as are most christians happy to work sunday. My guess is, she will not win her case, but we shall see.
It doesn't say that the Muslim employee had the whole of Friday off but that they were allowed time to attend prayers on a Friday lunchtime.
