I know they are private individuals and as such have a right to protest against the changes in their pensions, in anyway they deem necessary.
But on humanitarian grounds shouldn't a law be introduced to make it illegal for them to withdraw their services?

I went through this in the 70's, all Consultants ( almost all) had their resignations prepared but very few of us coils afford to strike as we had mortgages and kids to finance. WE were lucky in that it was a Labour Government and just the thought of strike action in NHS workers would lead the Government to "cave in"...... So unaffordable wage demands were met.
The Coalition Government?............will they "cave in ?"........I doubt it.
Will the doctors strike?........I doubt it.
Should the doctors strike?............by striking, does one mean withdrawing ALL services................to me that is unacceptable.........urgent and emergency cases would be seen. I would certainly withdraw services from routine medical care if need be..just like the Miners, the Postal workers, the Teachers, the Ambulance Service ....all public sector workers.....what is good for the goose...........etc, etc.
Private Practice.....no need to strike....this is how much my fees are......you have the choice.....see me OR not ....as long as O give a good service and Me fees are competitive.
The doctors wil NOT strike............they are on to a good thing with the NHS and they know it.

can i just point out that not every single doctor in the country will strike at the same time? people will still be operated on and emergencies will be dealt with. as for aog to suggest anything be done on humanitarian grounds - that's what people are sniggering at - and please read the rest of his posts over the last couple of days to see what the wider issues are. he likes winding people up....and turning them on each other. not a nice individual....who has even less nicer views and opinions.
and doctors in the nhs sometimes work ridiculous hours for their pay - and train for years, racking up student debt, for which they should be rewarded - financially or otherwise. i'd like to see most people on here do what they do and come out the other side smiling. doctors are all perfect, aren't they?
