'The Artist' wins an Oscar for the best film???????????????

Er, let's get this right in 2012 a Black & White, Silent Film, wins best film.

The last time a black & white silent film won an Oscar was back in 1929.

In this age of wide-screen, brilliant colour, stereophonic all round sound, and even 3D. this wins best film?

Tell me is this a case of 'The King's New Clothes'?

Must dash off to my local Currys now, they have the latest in music players, it requires no electricity to play it, you just wind it up, and put the new 78rpm record disc on it.

They say they are absolutely brilliant, and must come No 1 in the 10 best audio players list.

/// AOG its a city of millions ///

No excuse, it never was like this, if it had been there would have been a 'Hanging' almost every day, and Mr Pierrepoint would have been kept very busy.

/// Was he stabbed by a londoner? ///

No idea if the murderer was a Londoner, I don't think it has been revealed yet.

/// I'm fairly sure that aog would also pooh-pooh the art of
ballet, ///

Don't be so pedantic, perhaps there are many that would 'pooh-pooh' ballet, just has there are many that would 'pooh-pooh' Opera, or any other minority pursuits.
Sorry AOG London has always been like this since before Dickens and Pepys.

2010 had the lowest murder rate for over 30 years.

The big change,of course, is information and the open maws of the news media.

Base reserch will show that the biggest problem prior to the 20th century was unreported crime

/// The film somewhat fuels my viewpoint on many of your threads about urban crime actually, it's title deriving from a line in the film which translates as 'hatred breeds hatred', that couldn't be more true! ///

You type a perfectly reasonable contribution, and then find the need to have one of your typical jibes at me.

What is the matter with you?
best film i have seen for years, fantastic acting, soundtrack, award winning pooch, and a salute to the golden years of films, unmissable.

I thought we would have to go back into the annuls of history again, any idea how many were killed at Agincourt?

/// 2010 had the lowest murder rate for over 30 years. ///

We are now into 2012, any up-to-date figures?
If you want a class film this is it. Beats the mush that comes out of America, it may have been made there, but at it's heart is a romance between the two principals and a love letter from the director to a golden age, i have seen it three times, and will see it again or buy dvd when it comes out. A rare treat
AOG "No excuse, it never was like this" Yes it was how far back were you going? Yet again a hypercritical post where you try to twist your own statement.

Agincourt dunno its not in London is it? Pathetic man
I don't really care for this film, I prefer sound and colour. Each to their own.
chapa did you go see the film, if you did and didn't like it fair enough
No I haven't been to see the film for the reasons stated above - like I said each to their own.
like saying i hate pasta without trying it, but as you said, each to their own.
Red Helen and i agree on this one. They are acting, having to portray emotion with no histrionics, whizzbang gimmickry, and bad language
Bloody 'ell who rattled your cage?? My opinion and I'm entitled to it.

'right'
no one suggested you are not, hence my previous comments. "Each to his Own", people like you though are the reason i try not to get involved in debates. End of story.

Em, I know you have been raving about this film for several weeks, I will endeavour to see it at the cinema if hubby is able to drive if not a DVD when it is released. Please do not let a few Abers stop you joining in the debates, your input is as welcome as anybodies.
Brenden, thank you, hadn't realised i was popular, you learn something new every day, back to the politics and religion section i reckon
"So what makes it film of the year? " who knows, who cares ?

The luvvies in the entertainment world love a bit of back slapping and award giving , in fact they have turned it into an art form of its own.
