I fail to see how that is offensive in any way at all.

Ratter ... lots of clubs have silly, but harmless, rituals.

Initiation is an important part of team bonding.

Like the All Blacks doing the Haka ... mostly white players doing a ridiculous war dance belonging to the non white natives ... but I don't see the Daily Mail whingeing about that silly little routine!

It's just a good job the journalists weren't allowed into the team's changing room, LOL!

The guys in the rugby club at my Uni had an annual mixed game.

The guys all had to play in wellies.

I thought the whole point of chaviness was that they dress in designer gear (so have plenty of money), but manage to do it in a naff way.

Sorry to be a part pooper but I hate these kind of initiation high jinks where newbies are made to do 'crazy' things. Sports clubs, frat houses, armed forces, public schools or whatever.

I find it really creepy and weird.

my boss plays in the interco golf tournament each year with mail jounalists - does that qualify :-P

Yes. I don't think golf is played in teams, except for the Ryder Cup.

I'm not saying this incident warrants the phoney outrage from the daily mail, just giving a personal opinion on this type of stuff in general. I'd run a mile from any club where you had to take part in this sort of thing.
I'd find it has horrible dishing out the 'discipline' as I would receiving it.

Okay, but turning up for an occasional society day, and being put into a team, is not quite the same as joining a team with whom you are going to play every week, train twice every week, drink several times every week, and remain friends with for life.
