How often have you had your Lottery ticket swiped in a shop, told it hadn't won anything, watched the assistant bin it, and walked away wondering if you'd been lied to? Well, see this: http://www.dailymail....lottery-winnings.html

Why not Messi? They're human like everyone else! Sadly, greed got the better of them as it could with anyone.
It's just that they look so honest, B00.
lol, most dishonest folk do :P
Why does the fact that the person who's ticket it was, was a pensioner?

Are we supposed to feel more pity because of their age, or are we supposed to assume that being a pensioner, they have no money?

If there are any pensioners on AB - do you find it a bit patronising, or does it just 'add colour' to the story?
If you go to Lottery home page there's a facility for checking your numbers.Enter them and save them, then click on check my saved numbers and it does it for you.

I always check mine on the lottery site before going to the shop to claim.
Even if you're not on-line, results are easy enough to find and check for yourself.
I play online because it saves going to the shop. In supermarkets the lottery counter is always separate and if I've shopped using my debit card and forgot to ask for cashback then I can't buy a ticket. So I opened an account and put a tenner in every so often. I have to say I have won more online than I did with a shop bought ticket. The best bit is any winnings go to your lottery account. You can then choose to send it to your bank or, like I did, splurge the whole lot on more lottery tickets or instant wins. That £620 didn't last long. Sorry, £6.20!! Still got the 20p though. :-)
This happened a few years ago, where a couple in a corner shop diddled lots of people out of their winnings. I now do mine online now and can either leave any winnings on the account for further tickets or send it to the bank.
i always take them to two places!
I always check it twice (tv and newspaper)before handing it over. I make a note of the prize it will pay out.
Isn't there a screen for the customer, too?
Here, when my ticket's swiped it shows on a computer screen. A simple solution.
Once, not long after the lottery started I took what I thought was a winning ticket (4 numbers) to a shop whilst on holiday. They said it wasn't a winner and asked if they should throw it away. I took it back off them as I was pretty sure it was a winning ticket, and took it to my local shop when I got home, to find that I had won £80. I really wished that I'd reported that shop as they may well have tried it on with other customers and got away with it.
