Because of the publicity that Madeline McCann's parents received, and the money raised. Karen Matthews thought she could make a few quid if her daughter went missing. So she plotted a fake kidnap in the hope of reward money.

As the 'law' stands though she has done the time with good behaviour that law says she had to. I don't think plastic surgery would work though to hide her, god botched it up when she was born, what chance does a surgeon have.

I can think of people a great deal more evil - this was just a stupid scam, no harm came to the child in the end.

The one thing that made me howl with laughter in the whole sorry saga was how thick the woman is.
Out of her 7 (or was it 9) kids, she had two she called twins (who were a few years apart in age) simply because they had the same father

Thicker than 2 short planks rather than evil, they did not harm the child , just hid her to try to get donations for a ransom. The child was safe living in an uncles flat a couple of miles away.
She will be given a new identity and moved to a diffrent area of the country.

I think more than evil she was suffering form crippling stupidity and poverty coupled with being easily swayed by moronic ideals of having lots of 'stuff' because she was too stupid to understand she already had the best prize which was her children. Who really wants to miss at least 4 years of your kids growing up so you can get what 50k? How long did she think that was going to keep her in Kappa tracksuits for anyway? A chav and their money is soon parted in my experience, but however thick she was she was hardly Myra Hindley.

I don't agree they did no harm to her.Imprisoning her, drugging her and restraining her with a leather strap is harm in my book.

I don't think anyone implied she was mother of the year,I did however say that in the grand scheme of evil women that have lived she ranks pretty low and really isn't worthy of a nationwide witch hunt- the child eventually whether now or when she's older will need to rationalise this in her own mind and come to terms with it either by rebuilding her relationship with her mother or drawing a line under it and not seeing her- either way it's Shannon's wellbeing that ought to be paramount and hounding her mother won't help that at all.
