Do you honestly think that is a probability em, and if so what chances......it is a precautionary move.
I wouldn't mind it as it will probably mean a lot of guards and the boys in blue around - and that equates to keep those thieving and scummy mugging b@stards away from the area.....
zac why naive, and DT who knows. Don't forget that some who scoff don't live here, and haven't see the after effects of terrorist atrocities. I have and it wasn't nice.
Yes it is necessary, and I don't see what the issue is about having such protection.
Ever since Munich, those who have won the Games have had to take such precautionary action, usually an overkill, excuse the pun, but better that than an incident. It is a deterrent to the ijiots to act.....
They are welcome to put up a missile stack here to take down anything coming in from the States, if they pay compensation for the disruption. A nice and discreet location, way off the main road too.
It's a no-win situation no matter where they site them, if a 'rogue' plane heading for the Olympic Stadium is shot down by a ground to air missile it's still got to come down somewhere and it's still going to do a lot of damage.
I think that you would find that they would bring it down well short of London as the policing of the European air space will be on the edge......but yes if it came to it......I understand that they apparently have permanent units on Buck Pal, the Hs of P etc., just as the White House has units, so yes it is always theoretical.
Again I go back to the risk of this actually happening is so low......that does not mean that the risk of terrorist action is low - more like the suicide bomber or K&R scenario - and I bet my final pound the SAS and SBS are practising for the latter.
Baldric, exactly what i said. No matter where you locate these missiles someone could get a direct hit, from the debris from a rocket, bomb, plane, not a good scenario which ever way you look at it.
