Could you adopt a Chardonnay?
http://www.dailymail....ystal-Chardonnay.html
Was reading this earlier, and I'd like to say that if ever I was serious about adopting a child, I wouldn't let a simple thing like their name prevent me from thinking about it. But after reading the horrific examples of Gemma-Mai, Courtney-Mai, Alexia-Mai, Lily-Mai, Shania-Rae further down the page, the snob in me came rushing to the fore and thought, "no no NO, I couldn't have a child of mine called that". It really is a social stigma isn't it being landed with a name so bad?
What's the solution? Going back to the days where the birth parents had no say in the upbringing of their child, therefore no say in their names?" Getting over our inbred snobbery for such names and thinking " a child, is a child, is a child" no matter what name they've been dumped with?

that said, if i adopted a baby i would want to choose my own name - as much as the name is the childs identity they also have an identity as my son/daughter and as such i would want the choice - and that is my right as their legal parent... i would view that child as 100% mine - not that i am just 'minding' them for someone else.
they are giving away their child, an that includes all rights to have a say in their life including the name and everything else ... whatever the parents reasons for having their child adopted, their rights have to stop somewhere.
birth parents should not be encouraged to name children if they intend to have them adopted
if the child is already aware of its name - say 3-4 + then i dont think it should be changed...
though nothing wrong with adding another name, that you prefer and calling them it - and use the original as a middle name - some use their middle name first anyway.
or you could perhaps double barrel it...?
i think itd have to be a really terrible name for me to want to change it though ... such as pilot inspecktor - for a girl...
i dont agree with the idea of children being forced to have monthly visits with birth parents... it seems a lot
also, sadly, i think it could potentially lead to some people being more willing to give children away if they know they can still see them...
giving away a child should only be done after having thoroughly thought it through and being fully aware of the consequences ...
i think even some unscrupulous parents would view it as a way to get their child taken care of for free until theyre older enough to leave...
there is also a risk of kidnap if they know the childs whereabouts.
it will undoubtedly, as shown, put people off adopting - and as open minded and liberal as i am , i would not like to have to have that extra complication in my life of having to adjust everything to organise and accommodate these monthly visits - especially as in this case if the people happen to be drug addicts, criminals etc
i think it could open up a can of worms really
