/// In two-thirds of cases, they were able to tell if a woman was gay or straight, and they accurately judged 57 per cent of the males they saw. ///
And all this was by looking at 96 black-and-white photos of gay and straight men and women for less than a second.
/// Subjects with facial hair, glasses and make-up were not used in the study to prevent 'easy clues', and the pictures were also cropped so that hairstyles were not visible. ///
This is the best bit:
/// 'It may be similar to how we don't have to think about whether someone is a man or a woman or black or white,' said author Joshua Tabak, a psychology student at the University of Washington. ///
Well who would have thought that, couldn't it be down to our eye-sight?

Being more serious, I'd like to see the full research from which these newsworthy bits came. Very brief sight of someone seems insufficient.
I certainly know people who are hopeless at this. One woman, most certainly straight, married a gay man, whom everyone in his workplace and their circle of friends knew was gay. She was astonished and shocked when, after a couple off months, he invited a gay lover to share the home and she promptly left. She remains incapable, but happily hasn't married another gay man since

So we don't know how many was the sample - we don't know how many viewed. Of that sample we don't know what the ratio was. We also don't know what the sexual orientation of the viewers was and if that has any bearing (or was representative) on the results.
i.e did Gay women "find" more gay women than straight women and so on.
Apart from that a perfect picture of science in action well played the Daily Mail, again.

/// It matters nothing to me what your sexual orientation and sensationalised articles in this trash they call a newspaper only adds to the supreme prejudice gays, blacks, skinny, fat, Jewish, white, Islam etc all receive on a daily basis ///
Slow down, slow down, this isn't a dig against any of those, you suggest the DM digs at on a daily basis.
It is just a light hearted report by some study held by, Washington-University and published in the online Public Library of Science.
There is nothing homophobic, Racist, anti skinny, anti fat, anti Jewish, anti white, or even anti Islamic about this report, it isn't even sensationalist.
The only one bringing these issues into the equation is you, yourself, so what does that say about you?
