Do you believe he was just being curious or was there a more serious intent?
Why would he need to use specialist software to securely wipe the file from the computer, surely just erasing the file in the usual way would be enough for his sister not to be able to retrieve the file, but perhaps not the police?

"Why would he need to use specialist software to securely wipe the file from the computer, surely just erasing the file in the usual way would be enough for his sister not to be able to retrieve the file, but perhaps not the police? "
We can't really answer that without knowinge exactly what the 'specialist software' is and what exactly it does.
"Do you believe he was just being curious or was there a more serious intent? "
I don't know. But I don't thinking downloading AQ literature is particularly strong evidence of 'serious intent'. On my computer (and until recently on my e-reader) I have a copy of Mein Kampf, and various white supremacist websites would turn up in my browsing history if you looked hard enough. I also own numerous books on serial killers and mass murderers in both electronic and paperback form. You could quite easily put those things into a newspaper article and portray me as an extremely dangerous person - but none of them (as I hope is evident to regular users of this site) is any worthwhile evidence as to my political views, my attitude to other human beings or my intentions. If we're worried about terrorist intent, there are much more reliable forms of evidence for it.

I think we're heading down a dangerous road when we prosecute people for reading something whatever it may be.An awful lot of people have read Mein Kampf.
If you start sending people to gaol becauseof what you think they might do rather than something they've done or are definately planning to do - then we've lost
I can quite understand someone securely erasing it afterwards for exactly this reaction

What an amazing thing to say, given half the chance there are some on this site who if given the chance, would willingly prosecute or even worse , anyone reading the 'DAILY MAIL'.

/// How can anyone make a judgement on what you have provided AOG? ///
At least I did provide a link, that is more than some do.
And I am not asking anyone to make a judgement that is for the jury to decide on what is after all a ongoing trial, I was simply asking for comments.
Do you believe he was just being curious or was there a more serious intent?

i dont think anyone can really answer that aog but i have a mate who has a book called anarchists cookbook it tells you among other things how to make explosives i believe.... hes read it and lent it out to loads of people but none of them as far as i know had or have any intention of making bombs..... i think they mainly read it out of curiosity
as to him wiping it from his pc, i think if i read something like that (which i wouldnt) or even read an online version of the book my mate has i would be thinking "crap should i wipe my pc in case someone thinks i read it for serious reasons..."
