This is not a story from Dickens Victorian England, it is benefit Britain of 2012.
Are there really families going hungry, if so why?

The people I'm talking about don't need money either, just the will to make the effort to walk their children 600 metres down to the sea front. I only mentioned the benefits thing because that's what it said in the Arsegas as JJ calls it.
Dr F I am missing your point I'm afraid. I know you can't always tell whether people have a disability or not.

I have just read all the posts from this thread and am shocked... shocked at sweeping statements about the benefit system and those people on benefits. Our benefit system in this country is essential and is systematically being destroyed by a Tory government. Those that sit on the benefit system and abuse it are disillusioned by society and are the generation created by the de-industrialization of Thatcher's England .
it is easier to kick the people at the bottom of the ladder than to look at the real culprits of our economical crisis, who are the bankers, capitalists who are gambling away our finances. The solution involves a fundamental change in our political system... a complete redistribution of our countries wealth and the instillation of democratic Socialism....
And I quote " During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act !"

Its the Tories redesigning the benefit system for their advantage...
They are just a collective of elitist who have absolutely no idea of the difficulties of the common man.. or who care.. The Welfare State and National Health Service are the backbone of this nation and the destruction of these can only lead us into the black hole of universal private medical care and extreme impoverishment of the disenfranchised underclass ...
Are the incapacitated lesser people than lose born with a silver spoon in their mouth and only in politics for a hobby ? I think not !

Was it Marx who said that capitalism will self destruct ? It's the quantity of capitalists who are just out for themselves that are having a cataclysmic affect on this country and indeed on the modern world.!!

j4ane50 - I agree with you that "The Welfare State and National Health Service are the backbone of this nation ... ", but those who sponge and cheat are as much culprits as they lead everyone to tar genuine claimants with the same brush. In addition, the welfare state was designed to help those who were temporarily incapacitated or ill, not the lumpen unemployable who blame everyone else, shirk repsonsiblity for everything, contribute nothing and never will. I don't think anyone has said that one person is "lesser" than another, but I am sick of helping to support professional breeders who have never worked and never will. Incidentally, folks across the street, four kids to four fathers by the age of 21, wide screen tv, (easily visible through wide open curtains), PC too, nice car, 3/4 holidays a year, assorted prams lying in the garden in the rain, (well, why look after them - the social will get a shiny new one when the next pup comes along), toys scattered everywhere, and absolutely no manners between them. These are the people the cuts should target!
Furthermore, the elitist public school toffs in the last Labour government did a damned good job of fcuking up the country before the Tories even got there.

In response to DrFilth's quandary on Tameside. I have an acquaintance who lived in a test area for the capping of housing benefit who has worked all his adult life and got made redundant.. he was given £26 a week to live off .. and these people claim that it's easy to live off benefits and that benefits are just a gift.. B*****k's..
I feel for your predicament..
