How can the West leave the people of Afghanistan at the mercy of people who do things like this?

I call him Krom - and he's never complained either. ;o)
Sometimes people only 3 m's when they address me. I don't mind :-)
I actually like being called Naomi rather than Naomi24. Using surnames between acquaintances seems so formal and starchy. :o)
Tough if you do ummm.
how do we know the woman committed adultery,
Sqad it's not a given that she did, and besides what century is this again
em

\\\\how do we know the woman committed adultery\\ I am not privy to the facts, but just going on the newspaper report.

\\\ and besides what century is this again\\\

It is not a matter of "which century we are in" but whichever Laws that we have to live by.
sorry but that is archaic, and if these people think that by stoning, shooting their womenfolk is part of that law, then what the hell are we doing in these damn places. Let's get out and leave them to it.

We see the same idiocy here in Britain, honour killings, forced marriages, FGM, no one could condone this, not in a million years. No one has
said what has happened to the man she is supposed to have committed adultery with, still alive perhaps, set free?
\\\what the hell are we doing in these damn places. \\\

Nothing to do with changing their custom or culture or even to modify their laws, but to flush out terrorist training camps which provide nests of terrorism throughout the world killing thousands of innocent people.
sqad, but it's not our fight, why are we losing good men and women in places like this, which has seen no reason to change in 2,000 years.
There has been much change Em, sadly the newspapers think its too dull to report.
Eccles, many of these countries are reverting to the more religious extremism, and the longer our interference in these places, the more we lose.
Em the subject here is Afghanistan, I'm not sure what you refer to by 'these countries'

But back on topic have you spent much time in Afghanistan, listening to the hopes, dreams and ambitions of the majority of people?
Eccles, no but try reading as much as i can as i am very interested,
but quite frankly our soldiers have no business to be there.
Have you been there, going on the way you say it, perhaps you have.
all the countries that have been going through the so called Arab Spring, amongst others, the Middle East is absolute turmoil, or at least that is how it seems from tv news, newspapers and any other media. Talking with friends too can throw some light, those who are from foreign fields.
I have been there and find the sweeping generalisations about the country and its people tiresome.
I'm not going to get into the political argument, that is far too big and again their are many generalisations made.

I love the country, and the people, it is quite magical.
so why if it is magical, are there still these stories, women being stoned, raped, killed on trumped up charges. If they are not true, why are they in the media. Perhaps it is a beautiful country as you say, but quite honestly our troops should not be there.
sqad, we don't know she committed adultery (she'd be a fool if she did, in that environment) and it wouldn't be the first time that a woman has been found guilty of adultery, when in fact she was raped - nothing consensual about it. The "law" makes that decision, it seems, according to what they want the outcome to be.
Taliban law is harsh, and non negotiable.
//it is quite magical. //

I'm intrigued. What's magical about it?
We should make up a military force of our fit muslims to go to Afganistan & sort out these injustices.
